Question

composers

Who are to you the most underrated and/or underemployed composers? I think of Jay Chattaway (Silver Bullet), Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th), John Morris (the Mel Brooks movies),Ernest Troost (Tremors), Angela Morley (Watership Down) or Jonathan Elias (Children of the corn)...

Just curious...

Good question! There are so many!

To name just a few, my very first choice is, without a doubt, the great John Scott. A master melodist if there ever was one. Sadly, he never made it to the A-list. How unfair!

Michael J. Lewis comes second. I just can't believe this man hasn't received much more attention. Not a single soundtrack is commercially available (except for those expensive promos with lousy artwork).

What about Broughton? Sure, he has scored some hits, but he hasn't received the attention he truly deserves. (I looooove his masterwork for TOMBSTONE, a clear example of how good music comes to the rescue of a mediocre movie).

And the list would go on and on. Your turn guys!

I think of Hummie Mann (Dracula, Dead and Loving it), Elia Cmiral (Ronin)...

Ahhh, let's not forget those unsung maestros of Italian horror/exploitation cinema...

Fabio Frizzi (The Beyond, Zombie, City of the Living Dead, etc.)

Riz Ortolani (Cannibal Holocaust, Don't Torture a Duckling, Mondo Cane, Sahara Cross, etc.)

Stelvio Cipriani (Tentacles, City of the Walking Dead, Solamente Nero, etc.)

and of course, my personal favorite...

GOBLIN (Suspiria, Profondo Rosso, La Villa Della Droga, Dawn of the Dead, etc.)

Georges Garvarentz, for example, would certainly deserve more attention - just consider that only three or four of his almost ninety scores were rereleased on CD...
Other unfairly underrated composers -in my opinion- are Karl-Heinz Schäfer, Eric Demarsan... and Alain Goraguer.
