Question

How do you find a trustworthy children’s book illustrator?

One thing I’ve learned is that a good illustrator does more than create pretty
pictures, sort of, they have to feel the whole pacing thing, the emotion, and also
how kids actually react to visual storytelling. Before hiring anyone, it really helps to
browse through past children’s book illustration work carefully, and catch whether
the characters stay consistent from one page to the next, not just in style but in
that little acting vibe too. I’d also watch the communication, like, pay attention to
how they talk about things. If someone responds clearly, listens to ideas, and
explains their process honestly, the whole project usually ends up feeling smoother
later for everyone, even the person who is waiting for revisions.
