Re: The Amityville Horror Re-recording

Hi -

Can anyone comment on the newly recorded edition of composer Lalo Schifrin's "The Amityville Horror?" I purchased a copy of the vinyl album from '79 (AILP 3003) on eBay recently, and was unaware that a new edition had been released. Furthermore, I noticed that the new version offers several additional tracks and alternate takes, omitting the Disco frenzy completely. Which album has more merit, and am I missing any significant passages not included in the original vinyl release...?

Thanks in advance,
Christopher

I can't help you with any comparison with the new release from Aleph and the old LP, but I just wanted to warn you that there was an issue when it first came out with the quality of the sound.

Apparently, this was an issue with a certain production run and has been rectified. When I originally bought the CD I had one of the duff CDs (very distorted at the loud bits) but Aleph were aware of the problem and replaced the CD with a clean copy at no additional charge.

There's a lot more stuff on the new CD release, but the sound is very poor, sometimes awful. Keep your vinyl album!

FYI, unless I'm seriously mistaken, this CD isn't a re-recording, but rather the original soundtrack recording taken from a less then stellar source.

It's either that or the worst sounding digital re-recording in the history of soundtracks.

Sad to say but this is a RECENT re-recording and truly one of the all time worsts. I repeat : Don't but the new CD. Don't waste your money. "The Amityville Horror" soundtrack deserves the Varèse Sarabande "Deluxe edition" treatment.

I personally don't thionk there is anything wrong with the sound quality on my CD of this soundtrack, it ios after all a brand new recording. The thing is the main title has been totally screwed up. The choir and arrangement is nothing lik ethe one in the film, but I like rest o fit though. I want to get hold of the original soundtrack of the film, as I prefer the original recording.
