I'd say that in order to get a promo given to you, you must have been identified by the composer/agent as being an influential individual; someone who is likely to further the composer's career.

Alternatively, hunt through the various online stores for some "promos" that they have in store for sale. Bear in mind that some of these promos are produced as CD-Rs and may not be factory pressed.

Try just asking! I have received quite a few promos by just calling agency's. I just call, say I'm a fan of what ever composer it is that I am looking for and the either they say "what's your address" or "I'm sorry I can't send you anything".

So what's the worst that can happen? - They say no.

I only identify myself as a fan, and nothing more. I don't lie, I don't ask for anything that I don't want. I have even spoken to a couple composers when I asked about a promo!

I do have to say that most of all the promos I own were due to finding them in used bins.

Remember, they get a lot of calls from dick wads and nit wits asking for the newest and rarest unreleased thing.

I tell the truth.

By telling the truth when speaking to agencts and composers, here are a few things that I am allowed to mention I got:

Futurama - Christopher Tyng - promo
Stephen Graziano - Selected cues CD made for me. HAs some Sliders, Brisco County, Jr. and others. Like the wonderful trailer music to: Dances With Wolves!

Final Destination promo - Shirley Walker. A nice lady.

But not all composer will help you. Here are a few off the top of my head who won't give you anything:

Danny Lux
Ron Jones
Lou Natale - Won't even respond
Velton Ray Bunch - won't respond. Why does he even list an e-mail?
Shirley Walker - to an extent.

Remember they get letters all the time and if you come off being the insoncere person who wants a promo from some unreleased new movie score, then you lose!
