Question about orchestra on Puff Daddy CD
Ok, just to set the record straight I am not a fan of Puff Daddy. The opening track "intro" on the Puff Daddy and the Family CD has some classical music playing in the background, Mr. Puffy forgot to put the credits for that track in the CD. It is the same orchestra that plays before the "i'll be missing you" track (before the music starts, which is actually Sting's song). Could someone help me out here out b/c the music is really unbelieveable but you can't enjoy it b/c P.Ditty is talking over it

It's a choir only version of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. You're right it does sound great & I'd love to get an instrumental copy too if it exists (or not)! I became a fan of this piece via a dance remake by William Orbit which was used for the theme of the English soccer's Premier League telecasts for a couple seasons. It's one of the better dance tracks of the last decade.

Barber Piece
Actually that piece - if it really is the Barber Adagio - does exist in different versions, including an orchestral one, which is quite often recorded by classical orchestras. The piece startet out as the second movement ("Molto adagio") to his String Quartet in B Minor, op.11, composed 1936. It became famous by conductor Arturo Toscanini who had it arranged for strings. The version for chorus a-capella was, as far as I know, arranged by Barber himself, who had the chorus sings the words of the "Ave Maria" to it. In film music, Barbers Adagio was used in it's string orchestra format in Oliver Stones "Platoon", replacing an original Adagio that Georges Delerue had written.

I did a search for an mp3 & found one called: Samuel Barber - Agnus Dei (from Adagio for Strings) The Choir of Trinity College.
It sounds like it could be the version sampled by Puff Daddy but if it wasn't it is so similar that it is obviously not a unique interpretation & is fairly common.

you guys rock for all the info concerning this track. I've serached for hours for it! I finally found a copy I think must be it (although I could only hear a 30 second sample for free). Check out Rhapsody, and search for Barber and Agnus Dei

Hello, if anyone ever searches for the classic introduction music of Puff Didley again... I found a piece of music that sounds pretty much like the part used on the album!
Vienna Boys Choir - agnus dei (vocal)
OFCOURSE also the best known piece: 'platoon soundtrack - adagio for strings'
