How to find a piece heard on a specific episode of TV show?
This question isn't so much about music composed for films, but rather about pieces heard on TV shows. I PVR'd some episodes of "Andy Richter Controls the Universe" when it was on the air on American broadcast TV (Fox) and one episode featured about 90 seconds of a wonderful piece of music that I would love to identify. It was almost certainly "off the shelf" and not composed specifically for the show; it had an almost Russian feel to it--in my limited knowledge I'd guess Shostakovich or Prokofiev.
I PVR'd the credit sequence at the end of the episode (which was called "Crazy in Rio" and aired on January 5, 2003 in the US; it was the episode with Conan O'Brien) and there's no mention of who wrote or played the music. And the show has been canceled (bad Fox!). So my questions are thus:
1. Is there any kind of online database I could search? I'm thinking that this database would have more of a legal than musical orientation, and that perhaps I could identify who the orchestra was, and take it from there.
2. Failing that, is there a way to get this information in the offline world? Any organization that I could write to?
3. And the least likely option: did anyone actually see this episode and remember what the music was?
Any help would be appreciated.
