According to the FSM website:

Multiple sources suggest that Danny Elfman left SPIDER-MAN 2 when the film was heavily reedited after test screenings. It's probable that Elfman walked off because he simply had to start work on other projects (such as Tim Burton's remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). John Debney and Christopher Young came on board to write music for Spider-Man 2 (around Memorial Day weekend). It's also rumored that at least two other composers, Steve Bartek and Joseph LoDuca, scored parts of the reedited film. It's unclear whether any of these composers have adapted Elfman's music from Spider-Man 1 or Spider-Man 2, or whether they have written original material. Recent reports have Elfman still receiving the principal scoring credit, with Debney credited with "Additional Music" during the end title crawl.
