Question

JOHN WILLIAMS ON SUPERMAN RETURNS????

I was wondering if anyone knew if John Williams is going to be the composer for the new Brian Singer film SUPERMAN RETURNS? I read that he was on a comic book web site, but have seen no confirmation of it anywhere else. This would be a dream come true, a musical miracle if it happens, so if you have any info, please let all of us know.
THANKS!

The music for Superman Returns will be composed by usual Brian Singer's composer John Ottman, but director confirms in a recent interview that Ottman's score will include parts of Williams' score.

I just read on IMDb that the score to "Superman Returns" will be by John
Ottman with themes by John Williams. It will possibly be like what happened
for "Superman II," "Superman III," "Harry Potter and the Chamber of
Secrets," or "Jurassic Park III." However, I hope that it will turn out more
like "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace." John Ottman did a great job on
X2, so I am not discouraged.

It would be like a new StarWars with an ALL NEW THEME!!! No way

I sure hope John Ottman isn't stupid enough to trip over his own EGO by allowing his own new theme to overshadow the original masterpiece by John Williams which we all know so well and love, which simply IS SUPERMAN'S Music....AMEN. I have always had a pretty keen ear for remembering catchy melodies ever since I was a little kid, and I remember always singing or I guess I should say "humming" note for note the entire scores of movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Starwars and of course Superman which was always my favorite as a child.....and I think it still is my favorite classical movie theme by John Williams and of course who can beat his movie songs??? I don't really care if J. Ottman did a good job on movies like X-Men. But I have seen both X-Men movies myself and even though they were not bad flicks, I do not remember the music in them standing out as being anything special or more spectacular than any other recent big budget movie. I mean the musical movie themes of today are just fine and very effective in being the movie's emotional supporting backdrop.
But movie themes such as Superman or StarWars are SPECIAL and unforgetable to all. In my opinion its silly for anyone to even compare X-men's music to some of John willams older classics, which are simply brilliant from a musicians point of view, in how well they stimulate such grand, spectacular emotions in us all, as well as our imaginations! Indiana Jones was another good one and not just the main opening theme or march, but good good good in all different parts of the movie. Same goes for Superman and all the others, and even Jaws. Rocky would be another memorable theme that just makes you want to cheer, and go beat somebody up...hey YO! Althrough Rocky wasnt done by Wiliams I think and I know there are some other GREAT themes that the whole world knows yet were not all done by Williams either.
But Williams has the most hits and his hits are the very best of all I think. John Ottman just has X-men. Can anyone reading this remember on the spot how the Xmen music goes like??? I sure cant.
I would be surprised if someone really does, unless they are real Xmen entusiasts.
I am sorry to sound kind of arrogant or rude, and I do admit that I havent seen very many new movies myself. So I may be very short sighted.
Anyway, I think John Ottman is really an ego blinded idiot if he doesnt incorperate a very large amount of the original Superman theme, because its part of what makes this sequal so exciting and it just wouldnt be right without those great tunes.

By the way ET the movie also has a great John Williams score in it!

Well I am new to this website but I am a major fan of John Williams so I thought I would post my opinion. I agree that a large part of the Superman Returns music should be music done by John Williams. I remember as kid that when ever that music was played I knew right away that that was Superman. John Williams music has a way of sticking in your head. The music he has done recently has that same affect Star Wars Episodes 1-3. And man that Olympic Fanfare is another great one. I have nothing against the other composer, but I wanna hear the music that I grew up with. It actually gives you the feeling that Superman is there.

John Ottman is a young composer, whose themes (both for X2 and Fantastic 4) are marvelous. You don't meet a fine young composer who composes recognizable and outstanding cues every day. I'm listening to his brilliant themes for X2 and Fantastic 4 at this moment, and I can tell you - I can't wait to hear his upcoming Superman soundtrack. In my humble opinion,
there is no composer now who can continue the legacy of John Williams that excellent as John (Ottman) can. And I mean, not only in the music for Superman, but any other, aswell. He truly is John Williams' successor. So, calm down, guys, and trust me - Ottman will deliver it!
