Salo Soundtrack on CD?
Does anyone know if or why the Ennio Morricone soundtrack for Salo was never released on CD? It was a weird movie , but I always liked the music and wanted it on cd. Does anyone know why? Thanks.

I don't know why such a beautiful score was never released on cd but I really hope it comes out soon.

Hi, it is not clear exactly how much music EM wrote for SALO, however having seen the film I can confirm Pasolini did not use any Morricone music. All the music used in the film is pre-existent, that I could identify at least.
There is one track, a solo piano piece, that is quoted as being written for the movie by EM. It is on the Italian & French PASOLINI compilation LP's released by General Music.
However if this is similar to IL FIORE DI MILLE E UNA NOTTE, then Morricone could have written alot of music for this film that was not used by Pasolini. (See the recent GDM release of the complete score. The music was used only in one part of the film, none of the organ pieces were used).
Cheers Dave

Will the same SALO cues from the old General Music vinyl release be included
on the upcoming GDM compilation CD? Any info that anyone has about that
upcoming disc would be appreciated. Their site remains inspecific about the
track-listing. I'd also appreciate any reviews and opinions of the ARABIAN
NIGHTS release that GDM just did. I'm thinking of picking it up.
Last but not least (esoteric), any idea which recording of CARMINA BURANA
Morricone used for the end torture scene of SALO? Did he perhaps re-record
his own version specifically for the film? It's hard to imagine a more perfectly
realized performance of the music, and I've often wondered whether my
perpetual innability to simply discount the film as garbage has hinged on the
haunting union of sound and image in that one scene.
Blech.
Thanks.

I just got the Arabian Nights soundtrack a week ago, and if your a Morricone fan you'll like it. Lots of organ, lot of fun. I say get it if you love the man. Keep me informed about the other Salo music out there, Please.
thanks,
Tom

@ david.anthony
You say you recognize all the music as having been previously made -- can you tell me the title
of or how to look for the opening/closing theme, the little jazz number for the credits and to
which the collaborators dance at the close? I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!
