You could be right. He says these are all part of his well-looked after
collection, implying he's had them for a while ... and yet he's also selling the
new Intrada LAWMAN which isn't due to be released until 15th December.
His run-on style of description is very similar to another scammer I kept
spotting on ebay. Whenever I challenged this guy to answer questions (like
"What's the fifth word in the booklet notes") he would invariably be unable to
answer, once saying he didn't have the booklet, just the CD, and on another
couple of occasions the seller just terminated his auctions prematurely to sell
them to his current highest bidder. If anyone here has the CDs he's
supposed to be selling, try asking him a test question about the booklets.

Just asked him a particular question about DRAGONSLAYER, let's see what he'll come up with ...
He answered quickly not only the number of the copy (92, does anyone has this ?), but also its location (back cover). Perhaps it's unfair to blame him...
42zaphod, December 14, 2004; 2:39 AM

Not that it means anything, but my copy of "Dragonslayer," which I purchased in 1990
when it was released and know is genuine, has NO number written in the blank line. I
suppose I can say I have number 0 of the 2,000 produced.
Glenn
P.S. Fifth word in the booklet is "score." ;)

The scammer I kept chasing off ebay always borrowed artwork from THIS site
and sometimes others - he never used original scans. I know this because I
compared the jpegs from items he was supposedly selling and those
available here - and they matched exactly.
His DRAGONSLAYER image is taken off THIS website. Look it up in the
database. See the little white mark below the "A" in "Original" ? Also
another white mark next to the 3 in the top right corner? Yep, this guy is up
to his usual tricks.
stephenlister, December 14, 2004; 5:27 AM

Indeed the Dragonslayer cover is the same ! How smart.
The guy must be really smart - if he gets paid for the items, he'll make more than 100 pounds. I think I'll start doing the same thing... is anyone interested in mint copy of Dragonslayer just for $50?
I am rather wondering, if there is any general way how to avoid such people on eBay (not by comparing every image !). Stephen, what are your methods of 'chasing' ?
42zaphod, December 14, 2004; 4:58 PM

This guy (if it's him) is probably immune to me by now - whe he gets a
question from me about an item, he just ignores it. I asked him to verify that
his OMEGA MAN is real by telling me what the first word on page 4 of the
booklet is. So far, no answer. In the past, I've "chased" guys like this away
if I've spotted their "borrowing" of an image from a website, by simply asking
them: "Could you explain why you are using the image from the
soundtrackcollector.com website?" Usually the question leads the seller to
cancel his auction. I thought this was a victory at first, but then I found out
he had cancelled in order to offer it to his current highest bidder. I have no
way of knowing if that led to a successful sale, but I suspect it does in some
cases.
One other guy had the cheek to use a photo of an item I'd just sold on ebay
a couple of weeks earlier. I reported that incident to ebay (though they don't
make it easy to report suspected fraud in advance - they seem more geared
towards investigating an offence afterwards, when it's too late) and in that
instance the seller was suspended. But a determined scammer will keep
popping up with different aliases.
Perhaps someone else could ask him why he's "borrowed" the Dragonslayer
image, see what happens? I'm pretty sure he'll just ignore me if I ask,
because he recognises my name.
stephenlister, December 14, 2004; 10:18 PM

I've asked him to remove this image from eBay and put in an image he made himself of the CD.
So far no answer...

Well, now he's added MAC & ME and IMAGES to his auctions, and looks like
he's borrowed the images from here again. What's funny about his listing of
IMAGES is that he's also relying on the track information from this site, and in
this case that's tripped him up, because the track info on this site is actually
incorrect. He mentions 11 tracks, but there are actually more than that -
there are a number of bonus Williams cues on this bootleg. I've asked him to
clarify this, but I don't expect a response.

Hm...
Anyone considered maybe warning the bidders of the various auctions and referring them to this discussion, so they can see?

I think if this guy using images from this website he is also reading all these posts, obviously it is not stopping him.
I am almost certain that it is the same A..hole that stole my money and he got a way with it. (His username is pretty similar to the one he used before) His address is known but nobody can obviously doing anything about it, these poor ebaybidders are going to lose a lot of money as I see how his(her) auctions are going.
rmensing, December 15, 2004; 3:52 PM

I see he just hastily ended his auction for IMAGES, saying there was "an error
in his listing" ... yeah, so he's not replying to the question I asked him about
the incorrect number of tracks, but he's definitely paying attention! He's
probably out there on the net right now, scouring for the correct info or a
jpeg of a back cover so he can relist it again. Well, I'll be watching.
stephenlister, December 15, 2004; 8:30 PM

I appreciate the advance warning. I might also like to add that earlier this year (possibly as much as six months ago) there was a guy on ebay selling the exact same 'incredibly rare' stuff and he had a Las Vegas designation. I got burned out of $20 for the 'Wicker Man CD, but I can only imagine the poor bastards that got scammed by this absolute con-artist asshole! I tried many attempts via email, and finally a phone call to finally resolve the issue. Gee, the phone number was no longer in service - what a surprise. I wrote off in vain an email telling him what a foul practice he was running and merits of his so called 'character', but obviously, the email address was no longer valid either. Yeah, my instincts tell me this could be that same piece of shit out there plying his trade..... Good job on spotting him, but his kind always comes back like the cockroach he is.....
rbntt, December 16, 2004; 6:35 AM

May be I am wrong, but it looks that this guy is still active at ebay.
Look at this article: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4062419823&ssPageName=STRK:MEDW:IT
He sold a lot of rare Delerue CDs (unfortunately I have bought one item - what can I do, now???). His adress is:
Ryan Andrews
2 Old Hall Place Bentley
Doncaster
South Yorkshire
DN50DP
United Kingdom
and his email adress: WolfArmouries@UltimateEmail.com

There are many sellers at eBay that offer bootlegs, many done by themselves, or just CDR copies.
That was the case with Barry rare scores, so the John Barry site (unofficial site) has now a section that warns about those scammers on Barry items. Perhaps a site like this or others related can also warn users about it. Here is the link to the John Barry section:

Unfortunately I too was ripped off by the infamous R.Herring from the same (FAKE) address. I wish I hadn't tried buying any box sets from him/her because all you end up with is a blank disc. This is certainly a red herring alright! I've contacted the police, F.A.C.T, eBay, PayPal, Vero and I will carry on until justice is done.
Beware everyone, i'm a 26 year old single mother of 4 and I cannot afford to be made a joke of.
