Maintenance needed...

Hi!

I'm a portuguese soundtrack collector and I must say it all began with a RCA VICTOR release:

Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi
Original Soundtrack
Label: RVG VICTOR/HTG CATLG
Configuration: Compact Disc
Selection #: 09026687742
Release Date: Aug. 26, 1997

After some years of careless handling the results couldn't be worse than these: the booklet of the cd is in very poor condition and the cd's themselves have some scraps in the center (but no playing problems). Can anyone tell if there's a chance to acquire a new booklet? And some advice about the maintenance of the cd's? I'm just asking this because I really want to avoid purchasing it again...

Thanks

I don't think there's ANY way to get a new booklet, but as far as the scratches go:

As long as the discs play fine....Leave well enough alone. If you DO eventually have problems playing because of scratches, I'd simply use a commercially-available disc polisher (which I have to use on rare occasions for damaged DVD's). These polishers work VERY well to properly polish a CD or DVD back into playable fashion.

BUT as I said, don't use one unless you actually have a problem playing a disc.

I will suggest you try very soon to make a copy of the CD so you may continue to enjoy the music without further wear of your original disc.

Since the booklet is in very poor condition there's probably little that can be done to scan it and reproduce it using CD labelling software. But for other booklets you want to salvage consider scanning.
