the Birds: soundtrack?
Haven't seen this film in ages. Does it have a decent score? And did it ever
get a full release?
I'm asking because i'm very much into Oskar Sala lately. He was the man
who did these scary (electronic) bird noises.
I want to know if this material is/was available somewhere...

If you mean the original Hitchcock movie (and not the "Land's End" sequel), then no, there was no score at all. Just the bird sounds. However, Bernard Herrmann was billed as a sound consultant, I believe.

I have a book, which lists a 45rpm with the sound effect. Will let you know, the catalogue number, when I arrive at home.

Unfortunately no CD of this was ever released. Even if it's jsut the bird sounds it would be great, let alone if it had HERRMANN music on it, which I'm not 100% sure about, I mean as far as I know he suggested to not score it but have bird SFX isntead. I must watch this film again. It's been ages.

The Birds (1963): soundtrack? No, never
Bernard Herrmann was indeed credited as "electronic consultant", but there's NO music at all (score-wise) in THE BIRDS.....However, I've read over the years that Bernard's participation was in orchestrating the electronic bird sounds much as he would he orchestrated a music score.
