I believe the film was "A Walk in the Clouds" (1995) with Keanu Reeves and Anthony Quinn. The song never made it to the soundtrack. You could rent the DVD and copy it from there. I've done that on a number of occasions. Good Luck!

Hi filmfactsman, many thanks, whoever you are! if I track down this recording I'd make my mum one happy ole mum. Sounds like I need to get DVD, what a shame this amazing song didn't appear on the soundtrack of the film. Wonder why this can happen! Anyhow, my search continues, anybody else who can shed any more light let me know.
If I find the DVD somewhere will let this forum know - because whoever can trace it will be some soundtrack guru!!

It appears that not only was it a tear-jerking song, but that it was also a pretty good film according to Amazon reviewers. Many thanks for your help in tracing this, my ole' mum is overjoyed!
