Serpent And The rainbow CD - Varese
Hi all,
I was browsing on the net the other day and came across a statement on the IDBM site saying that this cd is one of the rarest cd's in the world and that only 10 copies were pressed - Is this true? Just 10? What would the cd be worth in todays market?
Thanks

According to the "U.S. Soundtracks on CD Price Guide" by Robert L. Smith, Brad Fiedel's The Serpent and the Rainbow is stated as a top collectible soundtrack CD and only 200 copies are estimated to exist.
Anyway, in cases like this is reasonable to think that some more copies were issued. In the SoundtrackCollector database you can find 26 people who has it in their collections (that's more than 10).

I think that the copies are more than 200

I have had at least seven different ones run through my hands over the years. There were two in my local Tower Records when it was released. Intrada had one in their store at the time. I've purchased one. A friend of mine had one, and he has purchased two other copies over the years... I've been out bid on Ebay at least ten times over the years. I doubt those were the same copy... :)

I bought my copy when it was released. At that time, it was widely available for a long time. Years later, some friends still found copies without problems. I've seen it at a lot of places and as a matter of fact I wasn't even aware that this CD was rare (make that "more rare" than the other out-of-print Varèse titles) until some months ago...
My guess is (and only a guess it is) that it was pressed in the same amount as other Varèse titles of that time. But how many they did press I don't know. Maybe we should ask Varèse themselves...?
Best,
Burnie
P.S. And it's not even complete... grrr :-)))

Are we talking about some kind of "urban legend" here?
I found this CD in a big records store when it was released, here in Montreal. A rare Varèse soundtrack you can find in Québec can't be THAT rare...
