the shining soundtrack
Hi folks,
I ran across a lp of the shining yesterday, it looked to be in great shape but I am looking for a cd version.
yes I checked the database and they look to be very scarce.
does anyone know any more about this soundtrack? should I have purchased this record? and what would be a reasonable price?
Any help would be great

It's a great find! I also have it (a radio station copy). It's becoming very scarce. Mine is a promotional copy. A nice eerie yellow cover too! Great moody exerpts from Krzysztof Penderecki. Kubrick really knew how to select music tracks for his films. Witness "2001", "Clockwork Orange", "Full Metal Jacket" and "Eyes Wide Shut". When a critic from Rolling Stone magazine criticized his selection of "These Boots Are Made For Walking" as part of the soundtrack for "Full Metal Jacket" instead of a song by The Doors or The Jefferson Airplane, Kubrick replied "I thought it was appropriate for the scene. Don't you like Nancy Sinatra?"

Thanks for the response.
I agree with Kubrick's excellent musical choices. It makes his movies way more memorable.
I have two songs from the shining, I downloaded them from one of the shareware sites but I would like to find a original copy of the sountrack on cd. do they exsist?
like I said before, I found one yesterday at a local shop LP version. they wanted $25.00 and the record was in great condition. I would have bought it but my turn table is not working. is that a fair price and how rare is this particular soundtrack? I would be willing to pay a fair price for a original copy.

I hate to tell you that I only paid $1.99 for my copy of THE SHINING but it was well worth it. The soundtrack is available on CD apparently as a "Special Edition" for under $25.00 with 22 tracks in all. Check out the website below and let me know how it goes. Good luck!

As you may know, the great Wendy Carlos is now releasing her (his) unused music composed for "The Shining" on two records, "Rediscovering lost scores" (also with unused music from "Tron", "A Clockwork Orange" and a few other movies...)

There is a bootleg with a Japanese artwork. This is identical to the LP but (IIRC) the song at the very end (again IIRC) was not on the LP.
As someone else mentioned Wendy Carlos is releasing music from THE SHINING so I'm waiting to hear it.

Hi! I found a mint copy of the Shining soundtrack on vinyl.I paid £25.00 here in London. It is the original Warnerbrothers issue.Warner are stupid idiots they omitted the only great song featured in the movie during the party and replaced it with a song by Henry Hall called Home. The song featured in the movie is called Midnight, the stars and you by Ray Noble sung by AL BOWLLY.I now have this song on another LP.I regret buying this record.Another, better soundtrack is "Jeremiah Johnson" i'm still searching for a copy.

Thanks!

I have a copy of the Jeremiah Johnson soundtrack on vinyl LP. Cover has come apart with the
years, but the album has been inside a special plastic sleeve all these years.
