Meiko Kaji fans heads up! Stray Cat Rock CD!

I'm just giving you Meiko Kaji and Japanese exploitation fans a "heads up" to keep an eye out for a "Alley Cat Rock" (Nora Neko Rokku, also known as "Stray Cat Rock") compilation/best of CD that will be released in Japan 7/23/2005 on the Solid Record label. It seems to have songs/music from all five films: "Female Boss", "Wild Jumbo", "Sex Hunter", "Machine Animal", and "Crazy Riders '71". It does include some previously released tracks that were on the "Go! Cinemania" series (vols. 3 and 9). This CD is being put out by the folks at "Hotwax" magazine. If you don't know, Hotwax magazine is Japanese magazine (it actually is more like a book) dedicated to Japanese music and cinema. The first volume is dedicated to the Stray Cat Rock films and the Japanese band Carol. It comes with a bonus five track CD which includes the song from the end of "Sex Hunter" featuring vocals by Meiko Kaji and Rikiya Yasuoka! I just recieved volume #2 which is devoted to the films and music of Meiko Kaji. For those interested here's the Amazon.com link:

Here is a link to the Ultra-vybe site, check under "New Releases" to see info and pic of the "Nora Neko Rokku" CD (you can also see both volumes of the Hotwax mag there also:

I can't wait, I've already pre-ordered the CD from Amazon.com Japan!

PS: If your a fan of Japanese cinema all volumes of the Go! Cinemania series (there are nine volumes) are must haves with tracks from: Branded to Kill, the "Scorpion 701" series, "Female Boss" series, and "Nora Neko Rokku" series. Go to amazon.com japan and punch (in English) "Go! Cinemania"

Wow! Thanks for the info yeesus. I've checked the Amazon site and the release look interesting but my Japanese isn't all that great. Can you tell me, which of the Go! Cinemania releases features the music from the "Scorpion 701" series?

thanks

Hi Paul,

The two volumes that contain BGM tracks for the "Prisoner 701 Scorpion" films are volumes #'s four ("Screaming A-Go-Go") and volume #7 ("Le Band Cinema Grande Cru"--it has only one track) However all the volumes are great!
Here are the links on Amazon Japan:

Paul, if you're a fan of that series (Sasori) you really need to find the LP on Teichiku Records from the early 70's that is basically a recording of the film audio (with Meiko narrating). The two films (one per side) covered are the first Sasori film "Sasori 701-Go" and the yakuza drama "Gincho Watadori". The label # of the record is Teichiku CF-26. I have seen it pop up on eBay a few times. Also, a great book to check out if you like these Japanese "Bad Girl" films is a Japanese book called "Pinky Violence". This amazing book (which is in Japanese, but don't worry it is FILLED with great, rare photos) covers all the Toei girl series including all the Sasori films, "Female Boss" series, "Girl School" series and much more! Take my word for it, this book is worth it even if you don't read Japanese! Here's the amazon link, but unfortunately there's no photo:

Oh, if you seen "Nora Neko Rokku: Sex Hunter" and love it (as I do) you need to pick up the Golden Half "best of". The Golden Half were the girl singing group in the club scenes of the film. The newest "best of" released last year only has one of the songs in the film "Kiroii Sakurambo" (Yellow Cherry). The link below is to an early best of that has not only that song, but the other one featured in the film "Koibito no Hoshii" (incidentaly that was the B-side to the orginal 7" single of Kiroii Sakurambo).

I hope all this info helps!

Hey all you Japanese exploitation film fans, I thought while I was on the subject I might add some other great CD's to the above list of CD must-haves. One great CD series that is still sorta available (but disappering fast) is the "Toei Masterworks" series. This series of CD's on Absord Music Label (AMJ) is more complete than the "Go! Cinemania" compilations because each CD concentrates on a particular actor or genre and contains complete BGM scores (all discs have at least two different films per disc). I don't know what is on all the volumes, but here are a few notable ones that I have:

ABCS 1002/1003 Ken Takakura: This double CD has the scores of "Abashiri Prison", "Golgo 13," and two other films that Ken Takakura starred in.

ABCS -1017 and ABCS-1026 Tatsuo Umemiya films. These two separate volumes contain the complete scores to four different "Delinquent Boss" films. These films feature swastika wearing Japanese bikers!

ABCS -1021/1022 Toei Adult films. This features the "Female Boss" series of films starring Miki Sugimoto. Also, features a score from the Japanese "Nun-sploitation" film (sorry, I don't know the title).

ABCS -1009/1010 Junko Fuji films. I don't have this volume (yet!) but I know it features two scores from the "Red Peony" series starring Junko Fuji.

ABCS -1011 Bunta Sugawara films Vol. 2. This is the second of six volumes, but this one features some scores from the "Fight Without Honor" Yakuza films.

If you're looking to pick up any of these just go to the HMV online store and search these titles by label # (which I provided above). Here is a link to Absord "Toei Masterworks" webpage:

Speaking of the "Fight Without Honor" (or "Jingi Naki Tatakai") there is a great sampler CD on Vap records (the label # is VPCD-81121). It has a couple of BGM tracks each from alll nine films in the series. Here's the Amazon Japan linK:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005H0IH/qid=1118828741/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_10_1/249-5337958-0112346

Another great CD from the same series (actually there are only two CDs!) covers all six films from the "Sister Streetfighter" films starring Etsuko Shinomi. Here's the link:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005H0II/qid%3D1118828953/249-5337958-0112346

If anybody is interested in talking about Japanese soundtracks, send me an email!!!

Thanks Paul! I forgot to put a link to the "Stray Cat Rock" best of CD, so here's the page at Amazon.com Japan where you can pre-order it:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000803E1E/qid=1118862264/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_0_1/249-5337958-0112346

I highly recommend ordering from Amazon Japan, they get your CD's to you (when in stock) ultra fast! Even there standard airmail shipping generally only takes a week and half (and I live in California). Oh yeah, also there was released yesterday one of Meiko Kaji's catalogue LP's, the first regular LP--not a "best of"--to be released on CD:
