Question

What kind of music don't you ever want to listen to?

The question by vamfv about what music you listen to besides soundtracks
made me come up with a variation on that question.
What kind of music or artist or composer don't you EVER want to listen to?

Personally I don't listen to freestyle Jazz, Rap and Rockmusic
(I mean the really deafening kind) ánd Modern Talking ;-)

I like freestyle Jazz, Rap, AND deafening Rock music, but the one genre that I really can't stand is COUNTRY/WESTERN music. That is, of course, unless it is the great Marty Robbins: "Down in the west Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl..."

I detest the noise that emanates from the radio, TV, shops, etc. ... so-called "popular music" from boy and girl bands, rock, garage, rap, .... where the "performer" appears to be fighting the "noise" accompanying him/her/them rather than singing in unison.

The Beatles and their followers have a lot to answer for ...

All the metal music, all rap/hip-hop, all techno, all house.

And QUEEN !!! I hate this so-called "cult pop group" !!!

Queen's soundtrack to FLASH GORDON is a sonic masterpiece and one of my all-time favorite soundtracks.

American Nightmare,

Why not ? It's a personal taste. And I admit I don't know the soundtrack. I HATE all the famous songs (I always state "We Will Rock You" as the WORST song ever written) that I occasionally hear somewhere on the radio.
Enjoy the music !

Any music created over a computer, made to please a certain kind of people (especially teenagers !), could it be rap, dance, anything ... The kind of stuff you hear a lot on TV ...

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT... QUEEN WAS A FANTASTIC BAND!... AHEAD OF THEIR TIME... UNIQUE IN EVERY ASPECT... MADE UP OF VERY TALENTED INDIVIDUALS. THE BAND CREATED SUCH GOOD MUSIC, SUCH GOOD SONGS TOGETHER... REAL CLASSICS! RIGHTEOUSLY SO THEY ARE ENGRAVED IN MUSIC HISTORY AND NOTHING CAN CHANGE THAT. FREDDY MERCURY THE BANDS CORE WAS ALSO A GREAT INNOVATOR... ECCENTRIC, EXPLOSIVE PERFORMER ON STAGE. A TRULLY TALENTED AND GIFTED ARTIST WITH A GREAT VOICE! UNFORTUNATELY HIS LIFE WAS CUT SHORT AT A RELATIVELY YOUNG AGE... MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE!!

Gangsta rap!
All this "music to get raped by"
Grossly offensive trash!

vodka_kayou, June 23, 2005; 7:06 PM

Most of the popular mainstream stuff thats exploited everywhere a person turns I consider a form of torture.
Like radio stations that play the same songs over and over and over again and again.
"Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison I am so sick of hearing bits and pieces of.
Popular rap music I consider mindnumbingly dumb although the innovators (The Last Poets) did some pretty good work before it became known as Rap.

Hi,

For me, Rap is the worst! My favorite oxymoron of all time is Rap Music.

deg63iami, June 24, 2005; 3:33 AM

Before Rap became trash it was an art. Check out some of Bill Laswells recordings he's made with various N.Y. musicians.

The stuff the average illiterate moron listens to has nothing to do with the original intent of a new found form of expression that gained popularity (as always when that happens the quality diminishes).

I have a French soundtrack on Cam (can't remember the title right now). The composer created a piece of Rap music for the score. It's heard twice during the recording. I think it's pretty far out.

Don't like

Non score music I don't listen to/hate:

- Hard Rock
- Today's Pop
- Country
- Gospel
- Rap (Of any kind)
- Anything by the flavor-of-the-month artist (Brittany Spears, Agulara, whoever...)
- Techno
- Blues
- Some kinds of jazz
- Things with overdramatic silly sopranos of female vocals, like Pavarati and such.
- Baroque Music
- Some kinds of Classicial Music

------------------------------------------

Film & TV Score things I hate:

- Hans Zimmer
- Trevor Rabin's less than swell efforts
- Christopher Young's undeserved amount of praise. He isn't THAT good.
- John Williams newer scores (Episode 3 was just average)
- Heavy synth scores with endless drum loops and electronic beats.
- Rythyms and beats taking the place of melodies and themes.
- And more.

Being a musician, i must admit that there are very few forms of "music" that i can't appreciate. That doesn't necessarily mean that i'm going to rush out and buy a rap cd, pop cd, etc., etc. I use to be exclusively into film music. I literally hated everything else. But, since i've started listening to other types of music, i find that i can actually appreciate film scores much more than I use to.
That said, I loathe synthesized scores of any kind. The only thing that ruined movies like Goldeneye and Terminator 2 are the fact that they feature hideous synthesizers.
I also hate when composers use the orchestra as a soundeffect. Music should be melodic, right? Who wants to listen to minor-key droning and unrythmic percussian? I love Jerry Goldsmith's music, but he was one of the worst perpetrators of the "Orchestral Crash."
Anyway, that's what i think.

Rap - Yet how can anybody say that rap is music. Worst I've ever heard

dspin24358, July 1, 2005; 11:26 AM

Any music that has been expolited by mainstream advertsing corporations, like the Kill Bill music that was used for Jaguar commercials. I mean what is the point of collecting this music if it's going to used as a punchline to make it part of market pitch for a product or service?
