Question about old varese club cd's

Why does some of the old Varese club cd's have a different catalog number than some of the others? Flesh + Blood has a catalog number BCL6002, different than the other club cd's.Why did varese do that, and what does that catalog number mean? Also, why does the Film Masters Series also have a different catalog #? I know that this may be a dumb question, but I just have to know. Thanks a lot.

The JAGGED EDGE CD was cheaper because it was shorter in length. I don't recall what the reason was for FLESH + BLOOD. I have the original flyers somewhere, just don't know where.

This is a good question, indeed.

The Varèse CD club started in 1989 and released 12 high priced limited editions until 1992, they were numbered VCL 8903.01 - 9201.12 (first two digits showing the year's release, ie. 1989...; digits 3 and 4 showing the month, ie. march...; last two showing the actual release's number, ie. nr. 01...).

The CD club released only two editions under the code BCL (B=bargain). They were low priced because Varèse has released them on vinyl once. It's much the same policy they have now with their bargain releases of THE BRIDE, THE ISLAND, PIRANHA and MAKING THE GRADE.
...by the way, Prometheus rereleased an expanded FLESH + BLOOD not long ago, one can expect now that they will 'spoil' the second hand market again when rereleasing JAGGED EDGE... ;-)

After 1992 nothing came out until 2001 (booleggers or semilegal labels throwing soundtrack after soundtrack on the market in the mean time). Then the club continued their number system a bit modified, VCL 1101 1001 etc. Now, beginning with month (november), year (2001) and number (1001; of course, there have never been released 1000 editions before, usually one just does not start with a low number, it's all about marketing and wanting to look professional).

The Masters Film Music releases are much simplier to explain. They started with nr. 2001, made the same pause in the 90s and restarted in the new millenium. Though nr. 2010 and 2012 never existed (by mistake? ...I don't know). The Herrmann 4-CD-box is numbered with SRS 2005/8.
