Why would you want the Varese release when the later Silva Screen release had not only the same tracks as the Varese, but also all those additional tracks NOT on the earlier issue? Silva's release was more complete.

The answer to the question: Why this version of Supergirl with less music when the new edition has all the performances?

Well, firstly I already have the expanded version but there are too many eletronic swooshes added onto the cues whereas the Varese edition does not. The music comes off more clean and the notes are clearer. Also one or two cues are alternates and not avialble in the SILVA edition namely: THE MONSTOR STORM which in my opinion is superier than the film version. The Varese mastering is more clear and dynamic than the one on SILVA. Dont get me worg the expanded cues are quite good and the album is more of a companion cd.

I guess....depending on one's point-of-view.

The Silva Screen release is more accurate to how the music was in the film....regardless of how much more "superior" you think the MONSTER STORM track is. As far as those "electronic swooshes"....I don't think anything was "added" to the Silva release....rather, those swooshes were always very audible in the film itself, and although I can't say for certain if the Silva release was actually done from the music tracks used in the film itself or not, the tracks with the "swooshes" are more like the music as it was in the film.

IMHO the Silva release is hardly a "companion piece" to the Varese release (sometimes I don't understand why people seem to think of Varese releases as "Bible", as it were). To me, the Silva Screen SUPERGIRL is THE definitive release of the score. Once I got it, I got rid of my Varese CD in favor of the Silva CD.

Sorry, I meant to refer the Varese edition as the companion piece. By the way, Iam aware of the swooshes on the film soundtrack itself. These were electronic effects which were later added by Goldsmith. Thats why you dont hear them in the varese edition. For me the SILVA cd becomes slightly annoying with its overuse. Ofcourse the Silva album is pretty much the same as the film. However, the Varese version is basically a preference for me as per reasons in the post above. For the ordinary collectors I do recommend the SILVA version and to say the least it is 99% complete.

P.S., somebody ahs already neogitated with me for the WIND & THE LION cd (sealed!) so the only thing I now want is the VARESE cd!...cheers!
