Randy Edelman's "Deagonheart" is everywhere!
I was wondering if anyone knew why Randy Edelman's "Dragonheart" is used excessivley on commercials for upcoming films, when the score is not by Edelman, and is obviously not for the movie. I've heard the main theme used to promote "Two Brothers" a film openeing late last year, and even as far back as the Disney Animated Movie "Mulan", whose score was a tremendous triumph by the late composer Jerry Goldsmith. Recentely I've heard it used (not the main theme) on the commercial for "March of the Penguins". How can they get away with using Edelman's best (in my opinion) & most underappreciated score for movies not his own? Tx,

Yes, it's very used, but I think that Stargate still beats Dragonheart in trailer & commercial appearances

There is a trend for this, using a rousing main theme in a film for trailers. Dies irae (I think that is how it is spelt) is often used in trailers and James Horner's theme from The Rocketeer was used a lot in the 80's and 90's

There is even a "hitparade" of trailermusic
http://www.soundtrack.net/trailers/index.html
on the bottom-left side you'll see a "most frequently used" list,
at the top of that list is another Randy Edelman soundtrack,
"Come See the Paradise"
