The Cinevox release: MDF 351 has at track 16 the 'B' side of the single release - a gorgeous theme by the Maestro. The sleeve notes refer to this single release even though there is no reference to its inclusion on the CD!
As to whether the theme is from the movie's score ... the sleeve notes state that "... only a fraction of Morricone's music was actually used in the final cut of the film!" So it's up to the listener to decide and I would say that it belongs to this score. A musicologist might know better!
Thanks! I didn't notice that while reading the notes.
It's a great score! Especially when so much of Morricone's music is being so overly exposed time and again on a thousand pointless compilation recordings.
An oppourtunity to listen to an previously unreleased score from the early 70's by the composer is a treat!
