There are two soundtracks for the film. It seems that since you didn't find the song on the one soundtrack you heard it's on the other one. The soundtrack released with music composed by Christopher Young contains the song "Up Against the Wind" sung by Lori Perri. That song contains the lyrics "down on my luck and up against the wind".

Believe it or not, I have found the song and it is not on the Set It Off soundtrack, but instead on the Set It Off Score Soundtrack. The name of the song is "Up Against The Wind" by Lori Perri. There are two problems that I am running into.
1)There is not a lot on Lori Perri, but when you are looking it up, you run into Lorri Perry and she is a Gospel artist.
2)I have not found that the song is available unless you get it by Bob Seger and it is just not the same. If I find it, and I am looking hard to do that, I will pass on the info.

Yeah, it was a really good move by the director of SET IT OFF to choose this song for the Soundtrack. It's a song that does not disappoint and one that can be listened to over and over again. The song has an R&B, Pop, and Hip-hop mixture being its genre. By the way, I tend to listen to such songs when working on my artwork.
