Pink Flamingos - the *original* soundtrack

I have the Pink Flamingos CD soundtrack and was disappointed to find that various tracks
have been replaced from the original 1972 film version. This is also the case with the film's
25th anniversary edition video and DVD release.

I'm trying to identify several tracks used in the original version (luckily I still have an original
video release which features the original recordings) but these are obscure saxophone based
rock 'n' roll tracks, which sound like something you'd find on the 'Las Vegas Grind'
compilations. Can anybody help?

and does anybody know the opening music which plays on Multiple Maniacs?

This is news to me....I have that anniversary CD and the current DVD, but wasn't aware that some tunes had been replaced (no doubt because the music rights hadn't been secured). Let's face it....John Waters, in all his early films, used 45 rpm records in his collection for the soundtracks of his older movies, and did so without getting any rights to the tunes.

What exactly has been changed?

Also....I love the music in MULTIPLE MANIACS, but again....that's another one for which Waters used unlicensed recordings for the soundtrack.

Yes, here's a complete run-down of both versions:

Pink Flamingos (1972 theatrical version) / New Line re-release DVD (25th Anniversary
Edition):

1. The Swag, Link Wray & His Ray Men (00:00) / re-release = same
2. Unknown sleazy sax music (11:54) / re-release = Intoxica, The Centurians
3. Jim Dandy, Lavern Baker (16:08) / re-release = same
4. I'm Not A Juvenile Delinquent, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers (16:58) / re-release =
same
5. The Girl Can't Help It, Little Richard (18:32) / re-release = same
6. Oh, Look-a There, Ain't She Pretty, Bill Haley & His Comets (20:46) / re-release = same
7. Unknown sax music (21:50) / re-release = Chicken Grabber, The Nighthawks
8. Happy Birthday, Eddy Howard (40:00) / re-release = same
9. Sixteen Candles, The Crests (54:04) / re-release = Happy Happy Birthday Baby, The Tune
Weavers
10. Pink Champagne, The Tyrones (54:12) / re-release = same
11. Rite of Spring, Igor Stravinsky (54:24) / re-release = Symphony, 2nd Movement: Allegro
12. Surfin' Bird (Bird is the Word), The Trashmen (57:34) / re-release = same
13. Riot in Cellblock 9, The Coasters (60:10) (sound effects from start of song) / re-release =
same
14. Bridal Chorus, Wagner (61:25) / re-release = same tune, different version
15. Unknown sax tune (62:16) / re-release = Chicken Grabber, The Nighthawks
16. (How Much Is) That Doggie In The Window, Patti Page (87:15) / re-release = same

The original 1972 version was released on video in the UK by Palace, way back in Nov 1981. I
much prefer the original track listing too - it's much sleazier!

Here's a track listing for Multiple Maniacs (1970):

1: Unknown opening music
2: Just Because, Elvis Presley
3: Reet Petite, Jackie Wilson
4: Jailhouse Rock, Elvis Presley
5: Glue Sniffing scene - Unknown rock n roll sax tune with some vocals ?
6: He's Got the Whole World In His Hand, - Pat Boone ?
7: Opening theme speeded up (shooting up scene, directly after rosary scene)
8: The Planets, Mars
9: God Bless America, Kate Smith

I very much doubt we'll be seeing Multiple Maniacs and in particular the all-music (no
dialogue) Mondo Trasho on DVD any time soon. Best hang on to those old tapes.

And what about a CD release of the soundtrack from Polyester, with cool songs by Debbie Harry and an original score by... Michael Kamen!!!

If Im not mistaken, there is very little Kamen score, very short bursts of soap opera music spread thorughout. Not to say that I would love the CD
