***REPORTING PIRATE CD-R's ON EBAY***
*FILM MUSIC FAN AND COLLECTOR COALITION AGAINST CHARLATAN SELLERS* Some people might not mind buying CD-R's at ridiculous, unheard of prices. Some people do not know how to cautiously and intelligently bid on eBay and get burned. Always remember though that one can report items one believes are pirate CD-R's to eBay. The eBay community protects the eBay community. Ebay does not by itself. Ebay need's feedback from people. Go to eBay's home page and clik on 'help' located on the top next to 'community' and on the next page clik on 'contact us' located on the left side of your screen under 'eBay help'. On the page that appears check on 'listing violations' and clik continue. Here, on step one choose 'counterfeits and copyright violations', on step two choose 'bootlegs and counterfeit media' and finally on step three choose 'media on recordable formats' and clik 'continue'. On the page that will apear on your screen clik on 'e-mail' and you're done! Here, one could report up to 10 item #'s at once who believes are pirate CD-R's. You simply type in the item #'s and nothing more. Very, very simple. The more reports eBay receives concerning pirate CD-R's the more chances for a seller to have their illegal auctions stopped or even more so to have the seller suspended!... *DO IT!*

I gave it a try now by reporting the Predator CD (4808070759).
Yesterday I asked the seller a question about a number on the CD matrix but he didn't respond.

Did you follow this procedure? Which cd's did you report? My personal report for a pirate cd is being investigated seriously. How can they tell you such a thing coma. Who ever told you such a thing is an idiot. As far as my Omega Man cd received I have the proof in front of me! If ebay gets enough reports they will act. For example, the last auction by microprovinca for the The Omega Man cd was cancelled after a few claims were filed. Something positive did come out after all!

Have a look at the Predator CD which ended yesterday - the winner retracted his bid and the final sale price dropped from $225 to $70 !

This is a good and worthwhile thread!
Many people have unwittingly been victim to scam artists on ebay, when buying rare soundtracks.
I like to think I've got good common sense, but it is becoming more difficult to spot these bootleg CD-R versions. In fact, because of the stories of people getting ripped off, I don't search for CDs on ebay anymore. I'd love to get hold of the Warner Chappell version of Highlander (the 2-disc set) but don't hold up much chance of getting an original. If this "spot the fake" campaign works, I'll be more than happy to help out!

....Thanks coma! All this is quite informative indeed. Don't stop reporting to eBay if you strongly believe a transaction is fraudulent!.... In this case though the situation is totally different. We (at least I) are not talking about "bootlegs" (a term that is quite frankly still vague to me and widely misused by film aficionados). It is one thing having record labels releasing non-licensed film scores previously or not previously released and selling them at reasonable prices and quite another in literally taking an out of print, limited edition cd of a particular title (in this case 'THE OMEGA MAN') and making a cleverly good copy in all aspects and selling it as the original, authentic silver pressed FSM cd film score to unsuspected buyers at an exuberant price. Now that takes balls my friend! This is a pirate, counterfeit CD-R. This transaction is illegal! It is a serious crime and even though it is nowadays flourishing across the globe costing record labels billions upon billions of losses in sales, it is seriously punishable by national and international laws. Music copyrights are being infringed upon and in some cases unsuspected buyers are being defrauded in thinking they are buying authentic items sometimes even paying hefty prices for the so called collectors' items. It is like selling a cubic zirconia ring to an unsuspected innocent someone as an authentic diamond stone ring. It is like selling an unauthentic piece of art as authentic. Of course these examples are unrelated to our interest which is film music... but I'm sure you understand my point. I and two other eBay members purchased from seller microprovincia (David Wong) an unauthentically authentic pirate CD-R at a juicy price. It was no bootleg. We believed we were getting the original silver pressed FSM Omega Man cd. Well... we didn't! Fortunately the fourth auction of 'The Omega Man' pirate CD-R was prematurely ended by seller microprovincia after actions were taken and especially those of Mr. Kendall's from FSM. Thank you Mr. Kendall!
