PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE

Hi! What is the difference, if any, between the Performance and Retrosonic labels? I've seen the Performance label being sold in a record shop for approx. USD$18 brand new. I'm curious in purchasing and listening to the film music. For what it's worth is the music any good? What is the sound like? Is it really one big long track? That seeems kind of annoying. It's been a long time since I last saw the movie and I cannot remember the music. The only thing that sticks out in my mind is that I was in tears from laughter while watching it.

The Performance disc or LP is pure crap. It´s the complete soundtrack from the movie with Sound FX and dialogue.

The Retrosonic CD features the pure music. Plan 9 never had an original score, so the album features the library tracks which were used in the 50s (comparable with Night of the Living Dead which had also a stock music score).

The style of the music is a bit in the style of typical monster movie music from the fifties (Albert Glasser etc), but I´m still searching the Retrosonic CD, which seems to be sold out.

Thanks! I wonder where we can find the Retrosonic release. What is a stock music score?

It´s not a original score but a score compiled from pre-existing music tracks.

The Retrosonic CD been available for quite some time for only $14.99 through www.percepto.com, but when I just checked their site, it's no longer listed in their catalog. You might e-mail them and see if they might have another copy lying around that they could sell to you. Otherwise, eBay may be your best bet.

Yes, it has no original music. And decision to use an original score on Dawn on the Dead was due to Dario Argento and not Romero, who also used an stock music score on this. He even wanted to use library music for Martin, but instead Donald P. Rubinstein wrote a nice original score for it.

NOTLD has no original score. According to imdb the 1998 version has an original composition by Scott Vladimir Lecina, but I have never seen this version.

OH CONTRARE....NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968), although almost all the music was indeed stock library music, DID indeed have electronic enhancements by the film's co-star, Karl Hardman. Try reading the liner notes on the old Varese Sarabande album release.....stock music was used, but throughout the score were the added music punctuations added by Hardman.

Better still.....Just go right to the page for the film right here on this site:

Yes, you´re completely right. I forgot that Hardman provided some electronic effects.
