what was the best soundtrack issued in 2005?
Best wishes for 2006 to everyone.
A simple question, what was the best soundtrack of 2005? Lets go for three categories;
- new soundtrack
- best re-issue soundtrack
- an oscar nomination for 2006
My choice: new soundtrack - Karol un uomo diventato papa (Ennio Morricone)
re-issue: Lord of the rings The fellowship of the rings (Howard Shore) -4 disc issue
oscar nomination: Corpse bride (Danny Elfman)

I haven't heard much new scores in 2005 but I liked very much for example Philippe Sarde's sequel score to his excellent "Le Mystère de la Chambre Jaune", namely LE PARFUM DE LA DAME EN NOIR.
There were many excellent re-issues, with the very best one coming now just before the end of the year, I QUATTRO DELL'AVE MARIA by Carlo Rustichelli.

Best new soundtrack of 2005: SIN CITY
Best reissue: Stu Phillips' KNIGHT RIDER TV soundtrack
Best Oscar-nominated score: Don't know, don't care.

Ok,
Best Score of 2005 - I'd go for Memoirs Of A Geisha by John Williams.
Best Issue of 2005 - Escape To Victory by Bill Conti - So good to see this great score issued finally after 25 years!
Oscar Nom Contender - Gotta be Geisha again.

Best score: surprise!! - "Racing Stripes" (Mark Isham)
Best re-issue: ex equo "Coma/Westworld/The Carey Treatment" (Goldsmith/Karlin/Budd) and "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Petulia" (John Barry) and "True Confessions" (Georges Delerue)
An Oscar nomination for 2006: March of the penguins (Alex Wurman)
IMHO, the worst soundtrack of 2005 is Land of The Dead (yuck!!) by R. Heil and J.Klimek. I stress that I didn't heard The Devil's Rejects by Tyler Bates :)
