Question

black cauldron - taran issue... huh?

I saw this black cauldron score on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Elmer-Bernstein-The-Black-Cauldron-Complete-Soundtrack_W0QQitemZ4822388234QQcategoryZ307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And it says this on it:

"This Edition is from the Taran Records Issue and have more Tracks and more Music than the Varese Issue."

What does that mean? Are there really more tracks? I didn't know there was more than one release. Which one really is better?

Thanks, guys

Steve

Hi,

I'm the seller of this CD. It is wrong, what you said. The CD is pressed! All my CD's I am selling are pressed!! It is not a silver coloured CD-R, it is a pressing with reg. code and label code on the CD.
Why you are suspicious? I have to remember you, that I am a serious seller and I don't sell CD-R fakes or any other. Trust me. If anyone have got questions about the Editions I am selling, please not hesitate to ask me (e.g. for cd-covers, I can scan it) and I will answer it.

Info: The Varese Issue is a re-recording. This Edition has the original tapes from the movie.

Perhaps the seller is unaware the cd is a 'bootleg'. Even if that is not the case... so what? Personally I do not mind descently priced factory pressed 'bootlegs' of otherwise unavailable or incomplete film scores. How else could one enjoy a film score of interest that has not received an official or a complete release? In this case the buyer who really likes this particular film score by Elmer Bernstein would be getting a nice factory pressed 'bootleg' with extra tracks which were previously unavailable. All power to them!

Well...

I know this Edition as a limited promo. I bought it in a legal shop, and they said, that is a promo. If it is really a bootleg, you haven't to bid for it. I will not end my auctions. For me, they are promo editions, because they are pressed.
I mean, not all my auctions are "boots", what you said, e.g. is "The Bride" or "Conan" in my auction. They are the original Varese Issues.

I think a lot of people are missing the point on these forums. I thought people were suppossed to enjoy movie music and it`s like "What can we whine about today. com" on here. I`m sure half of the composers are pleased that people want to get their ears on their music so much that they get bootlegs.

Now chill out and put Big - Howard Shore on your cd player (either version by the way - the boot is just as good as the varese)

I believe we have to keep a balance in this forum. It is wonderful for new and old film music fans and collectors to be aware ( especially the new! ) and informed of the possible crap that might be floating around on the internet but let us not get carried away. I agree with GORDON GOLD... let us enjoy the music! As for composers, I do not agree that they are exactly starving coma. For the last time, I humbly and truly believe that some well made meticulous bootlegs can preserve and complement an artist with their music otherwise unavailable commercially by the so called BIG and official labels who would not release this music since there would be no substantial profit gain, if any, since it would really only interest a few fanatic collectors throughout the world.
