Deadly Friend is Being Released

There is a new release of Deadly Friend (the original Varese Sarabande Version) being released in 2006. Does anyone know what label. Is it one of the new Varese 1,000 limited editions? Possibly. If anyone knows anything about this, then please let me know. Thanks.

Where did you hear that?

Since it was a Varese LP, and the way the club releases have been it would not be surprising to hear that it will get a limited pressing. Of course there are still MANY LPs not on CD that Varese did which are much more requested than DEADLY FRIEND....

I saw it in the news section here http://www.charlesbernstein.com/ It says on the opening page. I agree there are others that I would prefer from this period like Cat's Eye, Children Of The Corn, Creepshow 2, Superman II, Spacecamp, etc

Wow,

Thanks for the news, trigworld. I for one would love to have this on CD.

BUT, I own the LP release and was always a bit dissatisfied with it, as it only represents a "stripped down" version of Bernstein's score. For instance, when you compare the film version of the end title to the LP version, there are a lot of elements missing (like the main melodic line, for instance) on the LP. It also says "synthesizer selections of the score" on the LP. So I wonder if somehow Varése did not have the rights for the full versions or if it was - once again - a question of union fees that would have had to be paid when including the orchestral portions.

As mentioned above, chances are that it would indeed be a Varése Club title (yes, most probably limited to 1'000 copies and yes, most probably sold out within a few hours). As these re-releases always consist of the original LP tracks without bonus material, I am afraid this will also be the case with this one...

But it's still better than nothing, right?

There are indeed tons of Varése LP's that would be wonderful to have as CD versions, and I always look forward to which one they select for their next "round":-)

I also would love to see "The Burning", "The Final Option", "Cat's Eye", "The Final Option", "Vamp" and many, many others coming out...

I recommend sending an email to Varèse stating your favourite titles... I did so and got a prompt answer saying something like "thank you for your suggestions, it will be forwarded". This could of course mean both "shut up, we know what we want to release" or really be true - I for one guess it's the latter (or hope so, at least :-).

Best,
Burnie

Hmm, somehow I think Varese wouldn`t tell Charles Bernstein in advance that they are doing it.

I guess, or better, hope it´s LaLaLand.

They love Horror-Scores as we do and surely would release the complete score - both in duration and contents.

Fingers crossed,

Michael

Yeah Burnie, it's a good idea to e-mail them with your ideas for new limited edition releases. I sent them a few myself already and they've still to be released. I don't think that a lot of them will ever get released, it's got something to do with licencing problems apparently or musicians fees. I would be happy with an official promo instead!

I don't actually remember the Deadly Friend soundtrack as it's been years since I saw the film, which is not on DVD, like Twilight Zone the movie and a lot of other Warner releases. I still wouldn't mind hearing it though as I thought the score for Nightmare on Elm street was fanatstic and it was by the same composer.
