Cipriani vs. Goblin on "Solamente Nero"
"Solamente Nero" is the only "Goblin" album I don't have, cause it was credited to Stelvio Cipriani.
Does anyone know why Goblin isn't mentioned on there, and just how they were involved? Was it something like "La Chiesa", where they did some additional music, or an attribution such as with Mario Bava's "Shock" by Libra? Or was it a true collaboration from beginning to end? How much does it sound like Goblin?
All info on this subject is welcome...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAah
I wrote a *huge* answer to this that took me about 20 minutes to type and now it's gone - damn computer.
Damnn.,....!!!
Short, short version: They performed the score but didn't write it. The score sounds pretty Goblin-ish, minus the typical melodic line.
Nice to have, but not that essential in a Goblin collection.
Damn again, I was proud of that reply...:-)) Frustrated now, I am going to bed.
Sorry very much rinse_dream. For more info please contact me at blinddoc@datacomm.ch in a few days, when my frustration is gone.
Best,
Burnie

rinse_dream,
You absolutely MUST track down this CD and add it to your collection. It is one of my favorite Goblin recordings and basically one of my favorite Italian Horror/Giallo soundtracks of all time. Super funky in spots and melodic and groovy in others, with spine-tingling themes that are executed (pun intended) brilliantly by Maestro Simonetti on the electric piano, and of course, those signature throbbing bass lines. As Burnie explained above, the music was composed by Cipriani and performed by Goblin, and there's more to the story. Here is an excerpt from the CD's liner notes (Lucertola Media, LMCD 005), in which the film's director Antonio Bido explains how it all came about:
"(...) When I thought about the music, I absolutely wanted to use Goblin, who were at the height of the fame at the time. I went straight to them and asked if they were willing to score SOLAMENTE NERO. They agreed and started composing but my producer didn't really like what they did and there were additional problems caused by Goblin's musical publishers who did not want the group to work on this project. Thus, I had to opt for Stelvio Cipriani. I went to his home and we worked on the score together. I studied music so I knew what I wanted and how to achieve it. It was a very close collaboration. We practically composed it together. [T]hen we gave all our compositions to Goblin and the[y] performed it for my film. They aren't credited anywhere on the film, but if you listen carefully, you will realize there is a lot of their unique musical style in it. It's not the usual Stelvio Cipriani style that you hear."
-Antonio Bido (Excerpts from an interview conducted by Peter Blumenstock in Rome, 1993)

P.S. I can't help but wonder if Goblin ever actually recorded their original score that was eventually rejected by the film's producer. Wouldn't it be cool if that recording actually existed, and was released on CD? I know, I know, it'll never happen, but I can dream, can't I?

Hello American Bightmare, I don't mean to shatter your dream but Goblin never recorded anything except the Cipriani score for this film. Brillianbt score, a must have, finding it was a quest but it's there to stay!! Great work and a must have for all Cipriani and Goblin fans!
