What about SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER ?

No, I prefer THE CONVERSATION.

My favorite David Shire score is RETURN TO OZ, without a doubt. I can't think of any others that I'd like to see released on CD.

'NIGHT MOTHER is really beautiful...
Anyway, my favourite scores are "THE CONVERSATION", "THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1, 2, 3" and "FAREWELL MY LOVELY".

russell.reinbach: unfortunately, I'm afraid that even though Farewell My Lovely might have got its own single CD release, nobody would ever release a CD with only Monkey Shines. So it's either a double feature or nothing.

I know it's not the greatest score in the world, but I do like 2010. Quite nicely downplayed for what could otherwise have been an overblown 'epic' score.

Am I the only person on earth who cares about a release of SHORT CIRCUIT? Not one of Shire’s greatests, all synthetic and a bit cheesy but... I love that kind of synthetic cheese from the 80's!

I don't know the Monkey Shines score so far, but I know anyway that Fitzwilly/The Long Goodbye is *not* a FSM title.
But seriously, I also don't like many of their coupling, the Cosma/Westworld disc being probably the worst. To get back to the Shire topic, not only it's beyond my understanding why his four tracks from Raid To Entebbe on the FSM CD are coupled with MORITURI, but they're even not the "complete" short score.
Anyway ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN would also be a great score release.

See new post re: "Coupled scores" - rather than hijack this David Shire posting.
On the question of David Shire: not a favourite composer of mine though I do own the FSM: Farewell My Lovely / Monkey Shines and the Morituri / Raid On Entebbe releases.
I didn't like the music very much in "Pelham" and can't suggest another of his scores worthy of release. Perhaps I need to look out some of his work - once I've tired of the European (mostly Italian) variety!

A few points.
MONKEY SHINEs is a good horror film by master Romero, not a "third-class film"
SHORT CIRCUIT is not all-synth. It has orchestral music, even with an armonica for the robot's "life".
I love BED AND BREAKFAST and many others, and want a release of his rejected HOMEWARD BOUND score.

My two favorites are THE HINDENBURG (#1 in my Shire book) and RETURN TO OZ.

David Shire is a fantastic composer. Every of his scores which I heard is truly unique and excellent: Taking Of Pelham 123, Conversation, Hindenburg, Return to OZ, 2010, but my personal favourite is Farewell My Lovely. For me one of the biggest mysteries is why David Shire didn't make such a career like his peers Goldsmith and Williams. He's a highest calibre composer.
