Most boring score ever purchased
After discussing about Bidder wars and high prizes it would be logical to discuss wether our efforts in bidding, our costs in purchasing a rare item were worth while. Let´s talk about the greatest mistake you made in purchasing a certain score.
To begin: 1.Runaway (absolutely boring score) followed by 2. Jagged Edge and 3. No way out (i hate this synthi-shit).

Although I love his acting, Anthony Hopkins' score to AUGUST bored the pants off me. Awful.
satanbug69, February 15, 2006; 10:40 PM

My favourite composer Ennio Morricone's RAMPAGE.
Bruce Broughton's SILVERADO, despite the fact that it seems to have a limited, but hard core of enthusiastic worshippers.

Peter Bernstein's BOLERO
Ernest Gold's JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG
John Williams' STANLEY & IRIS
I got off lucky. They were at a CD parking lot sale ($3 each) at Rhino Records in Westwood, CA.

Goldsmith, Barry, Morricone ... this confirms what we all know, that we're all willing to spend money on our beloved composer's works even without having any idea what they will be like.
I also like Jerry Goldsmith's music very much, but I didn't own anything more recent then GREMLINS from him, when I got the CD of "CHAIN REACTION". It's terrible ! A kind of music I can't stand. But I don't mind that much since I got it as a gift.
I partially also agree with JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG, which was a disappointment for me after 2 excellent soundtracks by Ernest Gold. For 5,50 EUR it's still okay however.

Yes it's natural - just I wanted to point out that everyone will buy the Williams and Barry Morricone anyway.
Me I also bought THE MISSOURI BREAKS (for 1 pound) and found it very boring.

Easy pick,
Smilla´s Sense Of Snow by Hans Zimmer & Harry Gregson-Williams.
It´s not that bad, it´s not so strange like some sytnh scores, I don´t hate it, it´s not awful - it´s just so plain BORING!

Boring or crap, there is a difference coma....
It's important to say this is all personal opinion, nothing more.
I am often astonished by the opinions of film music fans, to the extent that I almost believe I could believe I am on a different planet to alot of you guys. Even Morricone fans, who I should have alot in common with.
For instance CITTA VIOLENTA and RAMPAGE are far from boring, they are both scores that stand up to repeated listenings. Also Williams THE MISSOURI BREAKS, a totally enjoyable listen regardless of how it was used in the movie, also Broughton's SILVERADO - a rumbusteous western score.
What is the most boring score I have heard? (and not crap). Probably something by Delerue. He is one of my favourite composers, but when he is not writing beautiful melodies, his suspense music is just about the most boring I couild imagine..
Also some of his albums overuse source music, it just sends me to sleep. ...Dave

Coma
There is a difference between crap and boring - for instance a soundtrack can be tremendously effective in the movie it was written for, but be totally boring as a stand alone listening experience. Does that mean it is crap music?
Also I differ from you, if I hear music that is boring, it could mean the style is just not interesting to me, to my personal taste. I could call it boring, but that does not mean I would consider it 'crap' or bad music.
Glad to have a discussion with, and I agree we do live on our own planet. It's just that the soundtrack one has a lot fewer people therefore it amazes me how opinions can differ so widely....certainly makes discussions like this more interesting .
Cheers Dave

Actually, I was quite bored by all of Howard Shore's THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy. Whilst it does occasionally shine through with some great themes, I find they get very repetitive and formulaic very quickly. Having said that, I've just heard the complete score to FELLOWSHIP and I must admit, I was surprised to find it a much better listening experience than the original edited release! Although it still didn't quite justify it's price...

I think Brainstorm is an absolutely brilliant score by a brilliant composer and conducter called James Horner. However, I am surprised we can name people like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell et al who probably couldn't tell you the difference between the types of notes or how to put one onto paper. And what great music they put together. I mean the score to Kingdom of Heaven was so great the first thing I did was go out and buy the CD, not!

CHILD'S PLAY (Renzetti) :(
need I say more?
rinse_dream, February 16, 2006; 11:15 PM

You might add Renzetti's POLTERGEIST III
filmfactsman, February 16, 2006; 11:26 PM

Dave,
"Also Williams THE MISSOURI BREAKS, a totally enjoyable listen regardless of how it was used in the movie"
I'm not sure what you mean here as I've never seen it..?
42zaphod, February 17, 2006; 12:12 AM

Re: Renzetti's Poltergeist III
The end credits are pretty good... but ONLY the end credits, and they owe a lot to Howard Shore (Big).

The most boring scores which I recently heard are: Doom(Clint Mansell), The Fog(Graeme Revell), `Land of The Dead` (Klimek, Heil) - I got rid of them very quickly. Especially Graeme Revell composed many awful works which I should add to that list.

Hello,
For me it would have to be the film score from the movie "Gods and Generals" I was looking forward to it before it was released because I like that Genre of score and much to my dismay the score bores me to death.
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

I don't purchase boring scores. I purchase rocking soundtracks. Just thought I'd let y'all know. Quit wasting money!
neelnkizmiaz, May 10, 2006; 1:12 PM

No doubt for me, I bought the hexagonal LP of The Andromeda Strain in the early seventies. Oh God I'm having a flashback as I sit here typing
daylights007, August 30, 2006; 8:03 AM

Thanks,
