Basil Poledouris best works...vote!

Hi, I am a Poledouris fan and I was wondering which one of his works is considered to be his best? I like his use of percussion very much, like the conan scores and was wondering if he has other pieces that also has similar taste.

Also if other composers also like to use percussions as much as Poledouris...

Red October, Robocop spring to mind. im sure most composers rely on lots of percussion but its obviously down to which film they are scoring for, Kimberley for example has hardly any, but is also a really piece. My personal favourites probably the fanastic Quigley Down Under, Red October as mentioned before, and of course Conan The Barbarian. Always reminded me of Jerry Goldsmith with his use of synths also, and equally great at finding perfect themes.

For me Conan is one of the best film scores ever.
Though in response to your question I would add Flesh & Blood whis also a fav of mine

CONAN THE BARBARIAN, CONAN THE DESTROYER, HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, STARSHIP TROOPERS, FLESH + BLOOD, LASSIE, FAREWELL TO THE KING, NO MAN'S LAND, LES MSIERABLES, RED DAWN, ROBOCOP, AMERIKA, QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER, WIND, THE WAR AT HOME, CHERRY 2000, THE JUNGLE BOOK, A WHALE FOR THE KILLING...the list is endless, BASIL POLEDOURIS is deifitely my favourite composer for almost 25 years now, evesince I saw CONAN THE BARBARIAN in 1982.

For me, its "Conan the Barbarian," no question. Every composer has his "magnum opus," and
that score is definitely his.

Conan is best; youbetcha.

"The Touch" is by far his most percussive -and adventurously percussive at that- work. Remember the oddsome kits o' rackety bits Jerry Goldsmith lined up for The Shadow? Kind of like that... TIMES FIVE. It's pretty dense music, though. Rhythms are greater in number, speed, and combination than in Conan. Succumbs at times to the "action music tossed salad" syndrome. Contrasted to Conan, though, only maybe two tracks you could enjoy as concert pieces.

For more fun fare, look to FLESH & BLOOD. Definitely. Second-best of all Poledouris scores. Superb action, adventure, and romance themes.
