Best place to sell rare soundtracks?

Hello all --

My father recently passed away, and had a fairly extensive collection of soundtracks -- both on CD and Vinyl, and quite a few that are OOP. Many of them I am keeping, but some I am interested in selling. Should I use Ebay? If so, am I allowed to promote my sale here?

I'm not entirely sure how much some of these are worth -- for example I have an unopened vinyl copy of the HEAVEN'S GATE soundtrack, but I see one on Ebay for $20 -- I would have thought it would be worth more.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

sorry to hear of your fathers passing.

To answer your question from my point of view at least, it does appear that Ebay is the palce to be, however as there was a discussion on this site only recently, it isnot the only place to be.

It would not hurt to list those you wanted to part with here or even place a post & add an email address so those interested can contact you for a list.

As for prices, well my personal take on this is that there is no rhyme of reason when it comes to 2nd hand cds & lps. It depends on the fact that do you have something that someone REALLY wants & are they prepared to pay for it no matter what the $$ are?

I purchased a sealed Heavens Gate on my last trip to Europe for 5 UK pounds, so the $20 seems too much, but then I could have just struck lucky! who really knows? I recently parted with a cd for an offer I just couldn't refuse & then found another in a used bin at a fraction of the price!

I suppose get your list together do some basic research on sites such as Amazon market place & ebay etc & then you will have an idea of what to price those items you want to part with.

1 thing I have noticed though in the age of cds, the poor old lp does not seem to get a great deal these days, although there have been some nice surprises for some sellers.

Good luck in whatever you do.

enjoys those you keep & happy memories of your father.

regards
Andrew

Thanks for the kinds words, and for all the information. After I do a bit of research, I'll post a list here to see if anybody is interested.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Indeed, eBay is usually best for getting the highest prices, but be sure to put a reserve price on the more valuable titles. You can search to see what prices were reached in the last 30 days, but sometimes a specific title may not have sold in that time period. It might be wiser to hold onto a title until you see one sell and what it brings. eBay sales can be somewhat inconsistent, in that something will draw a high price one week and a low one the next, then a high one again, depending on who is watching eBay at any given time.

If you like film music, you can also try trading for titles that you want. I, like many others who post here, maintain an extensive trade list and often work out trades with other members.

As another poster said, vinyl is a more difficult proposition. I have never had good luck trying to sell vinyl.

Good luck to you, and again, sorry for your loss.
