Who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!
Finally, it's here! I am so excited that I can hardly contain myself. Woo-HOO! I just ordered my copy from Varese's web site. Don't hesitate 'cause they won't last long! Let's hope they keep this going...Gremlins, Goonies, Back to the Future...long live the 80's!

It's indeed possible that it will be again Elmer whose VCL edition will be the fastest sellout of the 3000 quantity.
The other 3 releases are also more or less interesting, but I believe MOST of the people got truly excited when Ghostbusters appeared as the last title !

indeed !!! all for the 80`s releases for me !!!
Gremlins still top of my list, closely followed by BTTF !!

Can anyone of you evaluate if the three sample files offered on Varèse's website are the best three tracks from that score? And does the theme from the Ghostbusters SONG feature in an instrumental version on this new VS score CD (I'm not really sure, but I tend to believe the "Ghostbusters Theme" on this new CD is not the same melody as the song)?

hi Handstand
I stand to be corrected on this matter, so maybe some more investigation will confirm 100%.
But I think the theme your after was written by Ray Parker jr & not Bernstien, so maybe this is why it is not on the verese cd.
The instrumental was the B side to original 7inch & it was also on the expanded 12inch if my memory recall correctly.
If I'm wrong, happy to admit to those who have more knowledge on this.
enjoy the music

handstand,
You are correct that the "Ghostbusters Theme" on the Varese Club CD is not the same as the song by Ray Parker Jr., but both the regular and instrumental versions of RPJr.'s song are included on the CD "song album" which was recently reprinted and still widely available:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E6FSQ6/qid=1141703996/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/103-1914071-8726222?s=music&v=glance&n=5174
P.S. I can't say which tracks from the score are "the best," only that the score is beautiful, comical, magical, mysterious, exciting and inspirational from beginning to end.
American.Nightmare, March 7, 2006; 6:07 AM

No one can say that by now as "This disc includes music from the film, music composed for the film but not used, and music composed for the album but not used."

Finally, "Ghostbusters" as one of the Club releases. I'm hoping next time it'll be an expanded
"Heavy Metal" and then I can die happy.
Zob10701, March 7, 2006; 4:02 PM

I knew they'd do this as soon as I bought the bootleg. Oh well. Now I can bask in the full digital glory of the official release.
Oh, the "Ghostbusters Theme" on the album in the light-hearted piano-led cue most often associated with Venkman in the film, so I personally refer to it as Venkman's Theme as opposed to the Ghostbusters theme, which was, is and will always continue to be Ray Parker Jr.'s song.
his_dudeness2002, March 7, 2006; 4:58 PM

@Handstand: the three sample files offered are only a few of the many highlights of this score.
And Bernsteins Ghostbusters theme is the original one, before there were songs in the film.

Thanks for your replies, friends.
I have to admit that having NEVER seen the movie myself (although I was at that age then ;-) ), the three samples failed to catch me so far. I will still go for the CD though in the hope that it will grow on me. Thank god it's 3000 copies. :-)

Urs

Now we can pray for ghostbusters II score...... *closes eyes and wishes REAL hard......* lol
Salem_Saberhagen400, March 9, 2006; 2:38 AM

I am so happy this is released and myself too placed a order for the soundtrack on Varese's website. I had bought the bootleg score on the Lincoln label and after a short while it won't read in any cd player or any other player that plays cds no more.
I'm glad that I had made a cdr copy of it before it quit reading. Now I can throw it and the cdr copy away once the new cd arrives or keep it as a collector's item for viewing and comparison only.
I even gladly still own the Arista and Mca soundtracks of Ghostbusters 1 and 2 on all 3 formats (Lp, Cassette and Cd)!
Woo-Hoo!!!
