Pasolini's Arabian Nights
Who's the composer of the violin solo in various scenes throughout Pier Paolo Pasolini's Film Arabian Nights (or 1001 Erotic Nights) and especially at the end (when Zumarud is walking through the court disguised as the king and spots her wandering lover; when she first approaches the fort-kingdom dressed as a wanderer etc.)? I thought I recognized it as J.S. Bach, but dementia even included Schubert as a possibility. Can anyone help me? If so, maybe someone could also tell me the composer of the flute solo in Oedipus Rex, as Oedipus is being led to the Sphinx and passes by Tereisias playing the flute. The scenes with Tereisias are fabulous, I steal his quotes all the time, especially when speaking to my fellow American compatriots:
"What good is knowing (or how terrible it is to know), when it is of no use to him who knows..........You are all mad, but I will not reveal your evils........Events will speak, even if I remain silent".
Thanks a million. Enjoy the day!

The score for this film is by none other than Ennio Morricone.
It´s available on CD.

Hi! The piece of music is a very favorite of many, many classic music enthusiasts...it's composed by Bedrich Smetana(1824-1884). The piece is from the cycle of symphonic poems "My Fatherland" (Ma Vlast)
And it's from a section called "The Muldau(Vltava) Very beautiful and sensuous as well...probably why chosen for enclusure in many erotic film works and other genres, as well.
I hope I didnt replicate by answering your query, I am a new member to this new site and your question caught my eye.

Hi Carson!
Thank you very much. No you did not replicate the
answer I received. Someone wrote me back, twice I
think, with the response that this beautiful
composition was from Morricone himself and to be found
on the soundtrack. I found that almost impossible to
believe, but had no way of finding out who the real
composer was. Only for a second did I think it was
Bach, then I thought it was from Haydn, and soon I
realized that I really didn't have a clue. This is
truly a gift on Monday, I will look up the best
performance of the composition and order it. I thank
you again. I loved Pasolini's film 1001 Erotic Nights
(timeless like [almost] ALL of his films), and always
enjoy his brilliant selection of scores.
Might I trouble you with an additional query. In
another very brilliant film, Oedipus Rex (Edipo Re)
there is another composition, played as a leitmotiv
throughout the film. The most impacting scene where it
is played occurs with Tireisias, the blind prophet
playing the flute as a messenger leads Oedipus to the Sphinx. Once again I don't have a clue other than a guess again at Bach. If you know the composition, I would again be more than
grateful if you could tell me.
Enjoy the day!
