Goodbye Mr Chips and Tombstone Expanded
I am eyeing these two and deciding if I should splurge on these...does anyone have any opinion if they are any good? Have not heard the Tombstone but I loved Silverado...as for Mr Chips, just curious about JWill's score and also Briscusse...
What do you have on your wish list?

While both these look interesting, from the recent releases I am personally much more interested in Hamlisch's THE SWIMMER - more than in these two.

Hello.
"GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS" has a very enjoyable bunch of songs by Bricusse. Although the MGM LP was a good compilation of these songs, the sound was rather poor. I hope FSM has improved it.
Apart from the sound quality, what I'm most interested in are the score pieces and adaptations by Williams, which were not present on the MGM release. I saw the movie many years ago, and I remember having been amazed by Williams' arrangings of the songs and by his few but beautiful score cues. I think this CD release could be one of the most important events in the soundtrack ground this year. Bravo for the FSM guys!
And for "THE SWIMMER", I'm also very happy with this release. A great score by Hamslisch and a very interesting underrated picture. A second Bravo for FSM guys!
Greetings,

I've just ordered the Tombstone expanded edition. I already own the original which I think is a fine score with some rousing action cues and stirring love theme. If I'm being honest there are some musical similarities to Broughton's Silverado, but you could probably say that about many composers scoring for the same genre (Horner's scores for Aliens and Star Trek II for example). Also Intrada very rarely put a foot wrong with these re-releases, and as many of Broughton's scores are released on this label I expect a quality package. If you don't already have the original album I would say splash out.
