Forgetting the time span you laid out, but if you'd prefer soundtrack scores that mimic the
majesty of some classical music, you've got to explore Erich Wolfgang Korngold. He scores films
for Warner Bros. in the 1930s-40s, wrote many operas and concert works, and also adapted
Mendelssohn's "Midsummer Night's Dream" into a film score. You can get more of a hybrid than
that. Each of his compositions is excellent. As far as orchestral color, few composers of an film
era can top him.
His "Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938) is a rousing showcase of his talent.
