John Debney's cutthroat Island
I just love this score so much!!!! I have decided to promote John Debney to my all time second favorite composer after Basil Poledouris who remains undisputed as my firm favorite.
I do not have as much experience as most of you in listening to movie scores as I only started recently like one year ago....so my question today is "Are there other scores that is of the kind like Cutthroat Island?" I heard that Korngold's classics might be similar but I am worried about the different in generation might make them different, although I do like Bernstein's Ten Commandments even though it's an old score...
Any thoughts?

Why not try David Arnolds The Musketeer and Stargate While i think of it.Both are big fun type scores.Stargate is especially nostalgic towards the big old movies.

Then you like the bombastic CUTTHROAT ISLAND... So do I!
If you are afraid of approaching old composers like Korngold, I think you could try with something more contemporary, like James Horner's KRULL. It's rather close to Debney's CI.

Without doubt `The sea hawk´by Korngold. I recommend the new recording with the Utah Symphony Orchestra (Varese). Debney dedicated his score to Rozsa,Steiner,Korngold and Newman and one must say, that his score is ´oldfashioned´in the best sense.
Also to be recommended Farnon´s `Horatio Hornblower´and Gregson-Williams ´Sinbad ´

Maybe this will sound silly, but try with Zimmer's "Muppet Treasure Island" (skipping the dreadful songs)
Also James Newton Howard's "Waterworld"

Well if you want a Pirate movie try The Bucaneer by Elmer Bernstein. Of course Korngold is different than Debny. Try either the Utah Symphony's rerecording of The Adventures of Robin Hood or the Marco Polo rerecording by Stromburg and Morgan.
David Arnold's Stargate, I second that suggestion. Joel Goldsmith, Jerry's son has done tons of work with the theme on the tv series.
There are tons of others

If you like Cutthroat Island....and i presume it is the 2cd version , then also try Joel McNeely...especially his' Shadows of the Empire' , 'Iron Will 'and 'Golddiggers' and of course David Arnold...love his 'The Last of the Dogmen' soundtrack....which should have featured more of the score . especially the endtitle.
All rousing stuff.
Yep Zathura is great...try The Peacekeeper Wars as well....on and on we go.

I love that score.
I would second the nomination of Krull by James Horner - it's in the same mold and also one of the great swashbuckling scores of all time.
I would also add one you might not think of: Beastmaster 2 by Robert Folk. It's just surprisingly good - You have to forget the film. I heard a story that at the sessions when the CD was being created, the producer (who had not seen the film) said something like this to Folk "So, it must be an exciting film...?" To which Folk is said to have replied "Well... There's a lot of... movement in it."
