60 Scores released - but are they legal ?
In 2004, a company named Tim CZ released 60 scores, many of them never seen by me and others widely available. The German company Membran distributed them and I found quite a lot in German shops like JPC and Wohlthatsche Buchhandlung for merely 5 Euros. They were professionally designed and their booklet stated many informations in German an English.
Titles were for example: The Constant Nymph, Lost Horizon, Prince Of Foxes, Beneath The 12-Mile Reef, All About Eve and so on.
Later, on request, someone from Membran said the whole bunch was drawn back because of legal problems. But up to now they pop up from time to time.
So, perhaps someone can tell me where these were from and how official they are. The quality is often quite poor, but as some of the films are pre-war, this might be because of the masters. There are no new recordings.
Nevertheless I enjoy them.
Thanks, ffolks !

It's possible that the contents of these CDs were taken from the FSM, SAE or BYU releases and other archival recordings, but without paying one single fee for the legal rights. In some countries this activities are known as piracy. In some others, there is a legal void that allows to do these rip-offs.

They even have the same covers as SAE or BYU releases. Also Fox classics are ripped off. They are bootlegs, but i saw them in the virgin store in Paris as well as in JPC. Strange thing. In Italy you got in jail if you sell fakes of Dolce e Gabbana. But for scores.....

Membran also have some albums with the same music and tracks as on Varese albums.
I have RIO GRANDE by Victor Young (Membran 221847-207). The front artwork shows the no. VSD-5378. The sound is OK for this vintage recording.
I did buy the CD in a normal shop - at low price.
On the Membran homepage you can find a lot of other Varese albums - issued on the Membran label.
The address for Membran Records on the album says Athens, Greece, and distributor is in Hamburg, Germany.
