Long overdue for a proper ORIGINAL 1983 score release - varese or Intrada anyone? Conti's oscar winning score is only available at present in a 1985 re-recording by Conti himself on the Varese sarabande label entitles North And South/The Right Stuff. recorded two years after the film was made, to me the recording lacks spirit and stirability as though the LSO played it under sedation - "Yeagers Truimph" particularly. I believe there is a bootleg going around shared with the "Karate Kid" but Douglass Fake of Intrada is always talking about the score in his forum so heres hoping he releases it as a special collection title.

This is also one of my favorite scores...Hope they do release it soon. Actually, there is another much much less well known score by Conti called The Coolangatta Gold which is also VERY GOOD....almost in the same mould like The Right Stuff. I have been very fortunate to have a copy of the original australian release of The Coolangatta Gold, rare stuff and very very good :)
