Favorite compliation

Aside from homemade compilations on what is your favorite compilation cd of more than one composer? Of one composer?

For me its a toss up between Varese's 25th Anniversary Vol 1 & 2 and In Session. For single composer cd's Goldsmith conducts Goldsmith on Telarc. I heard the same program conducted by Goldsmith with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. It was an amazing concert. The theme from Air Force One in the themes medley nearly blew me out of the rear of the concert hall.

-Vampire Circus (Silva Screen) is great fun. There’s some cool and rare stuff on this CD (a suite from Transylvania 6-5000 by Lee Holdridge, the original orchestral Main Titles from Vamp by Jonathan Elias, the Fright Night theme by Brad Fiedel (not the song, the instrumental version.)

-For single composer compilation, I truly love the recent “Ennio Morricone : Crime and Dissonance.” It’s all EXTREME Morricone, with free jazz, psychedelic sounds, strange breathings, wild muted trumpets, heavy guitars, crazy drum solos etc.

Hello,

My favorite compilation cd is "Cinema Serenade" by John Williams with music he composed as well as a mix of other composers music such as Morricone, previn, Barry, Legrand, Bacalov, Bernstein, and others. Beautiful selections and wonderful arrangements with Itzhak Perlman on violin and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

Through the years of collecting I've always treasured the selections provided in the compilation "Captain Blood" - Classic Film Scores for Errol Flynn, conductor Charles Gerhardt and the National Philharmonic Orch.

I really like three new compilations of Japanese film music put out by "Hotwax" magazine in Japan. If your fans of Japanese exploitation film then you should pick these up. The first features music from the "Nora Neko Rock" film series:

The second in the series is titled "World of Nikkatsu New Action" (same link as above). Their newest release is called "The World of Sadao Nakajima" and feature cuts from that director's works (the CD features a killer alternate version of "Jean's Blues" theme sung by Meiko Kaji!!!)

In my opinion though the ultimate compilation is the "King of the Monsters" 9 CD box set released in the 90's on the King Records label. It has tracks and suites from over 80 Kaiju, horror, and sci-fi films. Find it, if you can!!!

Alfred Hitchcock Presents Signatures in Suspense

For obvious reasons. (What a sensational tribute to Hitch's legacy!)

Film Themes & Suites by Ernest Gold is a great collection of re-recorded excellent themes by the composer.

30 years later, John Barry's Moviola I&II became the same.

My favorite compilation cd is also Vampire Circus. I don't have many composer compilations, but the Goldsmith 2cd The Omen is one I really like.

The one that comes to mind with me would be "Themes From Classic Science Fiction, Fantasy And Horror Films" originally released on Coral records and re-released by Varese Sarabande.

Many great themes from the low budget Universal International sci-fi films of the 50's.
