Are there ways to promote the creation of STs that don't exist?
Suppose a soundtrack CD does not exist. Are there places where your actions to search for one will make their way somehow to the Powers that Be? Suppose that people keep searching for a "Dead Like Me" CD in Amazon, for instance. Could that info find its way to someone who might produce such a soundtrack? Any other ideas?

Probably the only effective way is to contact producers of soundtrack CDs with requests and if they think there is enough interest they can contact the copyright holders. Some companies that focus on producing STs include Lalaland, Perserverance, Prometheus, Intrada, Varese Sarabande and Buysoundtrax.
Maybe if you get enough people saying "me too!" on a thread requesting a title, the honchos at those companies could be alerted.

...and FSM!

It's exactly these major companies which I'm sure will not listen to anyone. No one is interested in releasing soundtracks beyond Titanic and Star Wars.
Take EMI and their 007 40th anniversary titles. What a shame what they produced with some titles, despite Lukas Kendall & co. doing the best they could.
Smaller but film-music-led labels like Intrada or La-la Land are a better chance if you ask me.
And if it's a question of the rights, then you can't blame them because no one can do impossible.

I have to agree with zaphod as well. I believe that the really big labels are impersonal and now only concerned with commercial mainstream releases. Perhaps 30 years ago it was different. They would ignore requests for unusual titles were as the much smaller record labels are more friendly and approachable. Requests from 20 people will certainly not even get the attention of the smaller labels but a petition with 1000 names perhaps will. The copyrights issue can unfortunately be a major obstacle. I can't see a big label releasing all those titles released by Perseverance or BSX.

Well , why not use this very site here and create a new page ? Many soundtracks fan
come here and we could make votes and after a certain number (at least 500 or 1000 I
guess..) send it to submit it to the casual ones ( Varese, Intrada, LaLa Land ...) It could
be for the release of sountracks never published ("Gloria" by Bill Conti and thousands of it
) or re-issue of old ones ("Man On fire" by John Scott...).
This kind of vote is already done for dvds ( like in TVSeriesOnDvd.com) and why not here
? I imagine the webmaster could tell us if it's possible or no ..

That's very fascinating discussion. How about making a sort of "Want List" corner on the website such as this soundtrack collector? Like the collection list or the wish list? Let us who wishes soundtrack CD creation click the title. It will be better to make a "most wanted scores" list, like "most popular scores".

I am all for it. It is not a bad idea. Lukas Kendall from FSM and Mark Banning from BSX do log in on this website and interact with this forum now and then. Perhaps some requests/petitions might be taken into consideration providing that the copyright issues have been taken care of. It will be something like a free marketing research tool for them to see what soundtracks are being requested the most by collectors and what soundtracks might sell better.
