OBSESSION by Bernard Herrmann (Reference RO-0001)
Does anyone own a copy of the Obsession Score by Bernard Herrmann? I bought a copy off ebay a few months back, but upon recieving the CD I realized that I might have been cheated. The print on the Cd is Mediocre, the insert is simply a poor print of the Score Face (there's no liner notes). The Audio on the cd is pretty poor as well, and sounds like an analog recording with noticeable hiss. If any of you have a real copy, please tell me your CD is not like mine. I've read that this cd (Reference RO-0001) is a bootleg...perhaps this attributes to the poor audio. Please email me back.

I suppose you mean the complete original score (boot with yellow cover). It is not official, sure. I prefer the re-recording Herrmann cd with Citizen Cane and other cues.

The Reference-CD is indeed a boot and to my knowledge it was ripped from the Laserdics“s isolated score.
An official release of the complete score would be a dream. The old LP is not bad, but several good cues are missing.

If memory serves the CD came out before the LD. I had both, and again, if I remember correctly there were differences between the LD and CD. I still have the CD, but sold off the LD when the DVD was released. Dealing with an LP sized CD got tiresome, and having the both CDs (MFM and Refrence) of the music and the DVD of the film I didn't need the LD any more.
Regarding those isolated scores...several of the LDs were in stereo and the CDs and or DVD were mono. I believe MYSTERIOUS ISLAND was one like that as well.

Thanks for this information, Hammon.
Since Sony has opened their vaults for other labels, maybe there is a chance for an official expanded rerelease of the score. Hopefully there are useable elements outthere.

All this talk about the legendary OBSESSION score inspired me to write a review! My favorite non-Hitchcock Herrmann score!
