Question

The ROCKY Story

Hello,

this is a question that has bothered me for ages: I would really like to know what the source of the two variations of "Gonna Fly Now" (tracks #6 and #9) on the 1990 compilation CD "The Rocky Story" (Scotti Bros. 848 242-2 resp. Volcano 32000-2) is. These two tracks, although their copyright is credited to 1976, do NOT stem from the original Rocky I soundtrack album from 1976. They do not originate from Rocky II, III or IV either.

So does anyone of you know what these tracks actually are: Just rerecordings (by whom) of the theme? Or even previously unreleased Rocky I tracks? I suspect it's the former.

Any information would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Urs

P.S.: The CD "The Rocky Story" can be seen here http://soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=2415 (scroll down a bit, the Volcano CD is the last one before the general compilations begin)

Keep dreaming, friend. No such luck here. While the liner notes indicate these tracks were performed by the Rocky Orchestra (I despise this practice), it's really just a bunch of synthesizers. Mercifully not horrible ones, but fairly obvious if you're paying attention at all. Maybe the bass guitar is real, and the vocals in the first version do sound very much like those in the original soundtrack album. These tracks were said to be produced by a Richie Wise. I interpret that to mean he's the guy who toted in his keyboard.

KEEP AN EYE OUT, if you've got the hunger, for a compilation of music from Rocky I, II, III, IV, by the Studio E Band, which, unlike the Rocky "Orchestra", are actual musicians.

I actually find the sound of these two tracks isn't that far from Vince DiCola's Rocky IV score.

The actual point of my question was to get more information to decide whether I will sell away the CD or not. I posess the individual scores, so the only reason to keep "The Rocky Story" could have been these two tracks.
