Dark Choir
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows of AWESOME dark choir songs in soundtracks. For example; "Escape" by Craig Armstrong in the soundtrack Plunkett and Macleane. I would greatly appreciate some answers

-- "The Hanging", from Plunkett & MacLeane -- Craig Armstrong
-- "Escape From Mantua", from Romeo + Juliet -- Craig Armstrong
-- Multiple cues from Gabriel Yared's massive orchestra/choral work on the rejected score to "Troy".
-- Cues from the TV series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- Christophe Beck's work
-- Georges Delerue's rejected score to "Something Wicked This Way Comes".
-- Hercules: The Legendary Journeys - Volume 3 -- Joseph LoDuca (a few cues)
There is some more, but I can't recall at this time.

There's some good choral tracks in the Xena cds that are out also.

Jerry Goldsmith composed a bunch of, essentially, evil worship music for the Omen films, but it doesn't get any more malevolent than John Williams's Temple Of Doom sacrifice chant. Good luck finding that one lying around a record shop. There is, of course, Orff's setting of the Carmina Burana, made famous by use of its "O Fortuna" chorus in movies and commercials for things like Nascar, wrestling, beer, and aftershave. Frankly, I can't stand to listen to O Fortuna on disc anymore. Other, better "dark" tracks from that work include: Fortuna Plango Vulnera, Veris Leta Facies, and In Taberna Quando Sumus.
Silva put out a series of three "Cinema Choral Classics" discs, of which not all of the (re-recorded) songs contained are classics, but all three discs are worth spinning up.
"Escape" is from Plunkett & Macleane, and its closest cousin that I know is contained in Vol. II Romeo & Juliet (1996) soundtrack, which Craig Armstrong was also involved with, along with Nelee Hooper. That album's a bit of a mess, unfortunately (scattered dialogue/SFX), but I've heard of a cleaner promotional version of the score existing.
Related thought: Someone really ought to start setting down a canonical list of Orffian/Verdian/whateveriana choral rips. There seems to be more than enough interest in it.
