Question

Nominate for re-recording!

Are there any quality themes/excerpts you think deserve to be given new life away from the CRUMMY PLAYING of the original?

Ennio Morricone's whole NOVECENTO score album suffers from a really bad sound quality - a plainly technical mess, the orchestra is not to blame. So that score would deserve a complete rerecording.

A fast response, Urs, and I completely agree with you that the 1900 album sounds really bad and a better sounding version would be most welcomed.

Another example is Philippe Sarde's MUSIC BOX. Recorded in 1989 in Hungary - and sounds really bad (technically, the music is excellent).

These two, however, could perhaps benefit from a remastering. It's mainly scores that are lost or deteriorated that would deserve a re-recording, though we cannot speak of replacing a crummy original record if there's not one.
55 DAYS AT PEKING and WAIT UNTIL DARK as two examples for all the lost scores out there. With The Guns of Navarone and True Grit coming out recently, perhaps we can hope for more.

NOVECENTO's master tapes are said to be lost. The recent GDM re-release CD most likely stems from the same LP release the original Japanese CD came from. Thus the sound quality was no different from the SLC one.

I would prefer re-recordings of lost scores, such as:

The Thief of Bagdad

Angel Face

Night of the Hunter

Vera Cruz

Sinbad the Sailor

Murder My Sweet
