Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom Promo Soundtrack ?
I have in possession what I can only describe as a promotional soundtrack to the Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom film on LP. Sound interesting....? Read on, the story goes like this.
About thee years ago I was at the London cine Convention and having a great day out looking at all the 16 & 8 mm film stuff. Some of the stalls sell odd soundtracks and I soon found myself going through them. Then, on one stall I caught sight of a big trunk full of promotional items for the new Raiders Of The Lost Ark film, “Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom”. There were press photos, lobby cards, banners all kinds of things to do with The Temple of doom. This is where I found this disc. I asked the seller where all the items came from and he said they were things left over from advertising the film at some cinema years ago.
The disc is a plain ordinary looking LP but with a white label on it and no print Just the words “ INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM” written by hand on it. It was in a plain white sleeve with the price on it. I had been looking for this soundtrack on cd for some time but I thought I’d give this a go. When I got it home and played it I was disappointed to find out that it was not The Temple Of Doom but The Raiders Of The Lost Ark soundtrack. Since I already have this soundtrack on cd and vinyl is not my thing I thought I would sell it on ebay.
My Question is, can anyone tell me what the hell I have and is it worth anything? I have since found the Temple Of Doom cd on the Japanese label and this dose me very nicely indeed.

It seems like the value whatever you have would be dependent on its exact contents. Is it a duplicate of the other releases of Raiders music, in selection, pitch, speed, and mix? Sometimes they're not. I recall the Empire Strikes Back LPs, for example, having more prominent piano in the Imperial March. There's also a remote possibility, so listen carefully, that it's a live recording (heh) of a concert given.
If it IS the same as the old releases, which of course have since been digitized and improved upon, good luck getting even thrift shop prices. If I'm ever interested in records of CDs I already own, it's for the generally better artwork and liner notes.

I would follow zuvqwyx3's advice first.
If no soul decides to buy this on eBay, I would keep it and use it as a frisbie!
Be careful though, it could prove a dangerous toy!

I did some work on the European release Of I J T Doom & if my memory recals right, it was a standard release af the Raiders score, just sent out to theatres before the actual standard release was put out, in fact the reason for it being raiders was that at the time we had no I J D score available to us, except a story lp & we had extras of the Raiders lp. We did it a lot in those days to try to get some air play. But & here is the thing. We did 2 versions. 1 version was the straight forward lp, the other had intro's recorded before & after each track, something like 'your about to hear the theme from R L A the new film from SS & GL coming soon from UIP to this cinema' & at the end it was 'you were just listen to...' now that version would I'm sure have some value as a couriosity item. I know the 7 inch single to On Her Majestys Secret Service which we did a similar thing, sold in a James Bond auction for well over $100.00 & it was just the standard theme music by Barry, but with an intro & a copy of Local Hero on Vertigo label but with the intro sold for about $45.
Speaking of Raiders there was a great double LP put out as a limited edition release of the entire score, I used to own a copy, but alas some of my boxes went astray when I returned home to Canada & that wa sin 1 of them. If you ever get a chance to get 1 of those, well worth the effort & then you can make your own cd copy & you would have the entire score & the pressing was superb quality. It's easy to spot as it's a gold cover & a gatefolded sleeve with wonderful images on the inside, a real gem
maybe give your lp another play & hear what it's like.
I hope this helps.
Enjoy the music
regards
Andrew

Wow, what are the odds? It really is a small world.

...or lethal weapon!

The 2LP release of Raiders should be the 1995 Decca release. IIRC this double LP is not the complete score but had an extra track the expanded CD doesn't. That being Discovery of The Ark. There would still be 6 short tracks missing from the albums

I am new here and I thank you all very much for your warmth response, I have ( “booboobasher”) just listed this frisbee .. Er soundtrack on ebay, I have not listened to it again as I do not have a record player any more. Surely it must be of interest to somebody.

This is not a direct response to your answer and a somewhat belated one but will put it out for comment on the off chance some one reads this.
I recently purchased two Indiana Jones LPs on eBay at a very nominal price and was wondering if there is some history to them and if such does a third LP exists for "Temple of Doom". The two eBay LPs are:
Raiders Of The Lost Ark: The Movie On Record - Includes a 16 page full color souvenir book.
The Story of Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom - Includes a 16 page full color souvenir book.
I have not opened them as they are part of a sealed set which includes the three original sound tracks.
Any comments would be grateful.
