"Khartoum" fantastic score by Frank Cordell. Always available. On the other side "Take a hard ride" by Goldsmith. Average score of my favourite composer and sold out quickly. I wasn t surprised that "Patton" sold out because of this wonderful addition of "Flight of the Phoenix".

You cannot base your predictions on a quality of the SCORE itself. The composer's name, the movie's fame, the pressed quantity, all are more important than the actual quality (especially when based only on YOUR opinion).
I always expected TORA ! to be perhaps the first Jerry Goldsmith score to disappear from the FSM catalogue, but I was wrong here. On the other hand I would never think that FANTASTIC VOYAGE would sell out prior to dozens of other titles -- that's I believe a good proof that the movie fame sells well (though 8 years time is still not that fantastic).
HEART LIKE A WHEEL is surely not a product appealing to "soundtrack masses" (if something like these exists), but still I expected it to be gone by the end of 2005.

Personally, I'm suprised that some Varese CD Club releases are not already sold out like Goldsmith's Studs Lonigan, Justine, The Ballad Of Cable Hogue, Alien Nation as well as Silvestri's Romancing The Stone, Bernstein's Marie Ward were as Victor Young's The Left Hand Of God has long vanished perhaps because less copies were released and because it was a so called 50th anniversary premier release as well.
I'm also suprised that Magic by Jerry Goldsmith has taken so long to reach low quantity levels. It is really a great thriller score and a recommended listen.
Thriller/horror limited releases usually sale out fast.
FSM is another. Some wonderful scores like The Yakuza, The Gypsy Moths, Batman and many more are still available.
Eventually most limited releases will slowly evaporate.
Record labels though that produce limited soundtrack releases should consider making some kind of offer as to push stagnant sales of limited soundtracks that are not selling as expected and to use some of that that money to release more unavailable scores that are highly and seriously requested by soundtrack devotees.

I am slowly going through and grabbing the older releases as cash flow allows. I just noticed the low quantity on Magic and grabbed it along with Cast a Giant Shadow by Bernstein. Marie Ward really should be sold out by now. Some of the sell outs make sense, Predator, Die Hard, Ghostbusters, Great Escape, come to mind. Take a Hard Ride, a score I greatly enjoy, is sold out while the better known classic score by Elmer Bernstein to The Comancheros is not...go figure.

Obviously the lower the quantity, the faster the sell-out, regardless of quality. "Sheena" and
"Making the Grade" are crappy scores, but were gone in moments. It was probably just a
novelty buy for the mid-1980s collector who had them on vinyl for so long (whether they were
listened to frequently --- which I doubt -- or not).

Hello,
Thanks for all your great responses to my opinion question. I agree with about every view stated. The score that I am most suprised has not sold out is "Escape to Victory" by Bill Conti I thought this one would sell like hot cakes. As far as the ones that are sold out that suprise me I have to agree that a good number of the 1000 copies limited releases are not very good and are mostly an impulse buy or people take a chance on them and figure if they don't like it they can always trade it or sell it. Thanks again and I hope all of you get your hands on a that rare score you have been searching for-GOOD LUCK.
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.
