Cleaning and polishing of cd's???
Hi, I received this cd which has lots of minor surface scratches on it. It plays fine but aesthetically I don't like the way it looks. Is there a way to polish/buffer these scratches out by any specal type of cd cleaner or other way that won't actually do more damage than good? Any recommendations? I rarely use abrasives on my cd's/dvd's like alcohol anymore which have proved more bad than good. I resort to light wiping with a water damp soft cloth when the need arises which does not remove the scratches though. Any suggestions folks?

What I use is lighter fluid and toilet paper. Lighter fluid is VERY DANGEROUS and the paper soaked with lighter fluid can combust with just heat. I have found that minor scuffs will come off with lighter fluid.
I have used lighter fluid on Laser Discs, DVDs, and CDs. I also use it to remove sticker residue. The difference in the Lighter fluid is that there aren't raw hyrdocarbons in it which is what causes clear plastic to "frost". I worked in an oil refinery for almost 20 years so I have a little experience in the field of hydrocarbons. :)

Thats good to know. Recently purchased a couple of Discs at a resale shop. To price the items someone wrote with a black magic marker of the label side. I'll see if it wipes it clean.

Is perforated premium two ply preferred over basic single ply toilet paper?

I wouldn't recommend lighter fluid simply because it is way to dangerous, you could use toothpaste or silver polish on a soft cloth/towel to rub away those light scratches. unfortunate It only works on light scratches!
good luck!

Brasso, baby, Brasso!!!
Think I'm kidding? Try it on an old CD that you don't really care about - you'll see that, with enough elbow grease and patience, you can polish out most light scratches! I prefer Kleenex over toilet paper, the two ply kind. Separate the two sheets of it, and you have two thin, soft sheets to work with.
