I have my doubts too, but it has to be a bootleg because I am into soundtracks for quit some time but I have never heard of an original "complete" edition of this score.
That would be absolutely hugh news if an official release would appear on the market.
You can email Universal and ask them about this matter of course,
cheers!

I have this release, but I'm pretty sure it's a bootleg (a very nice one, though, with glossy inserts with liner notes and photos. The CD also has, IMHO, acceptable sound quality, but I cannot compare it to the Delorean release, as I don't have that one...).
I paid $24.95 for this one about a year ago (on eBay), but I hadn't done that if I knew it was a bootleg. The "official" site of the manufacturer can be found @ http://movie-music.info/ , and this site more than proofs that we're talking about a bootleg. Look at all the other "official" releases they have in their "catalog".

Dear Friends,
this release is a Bootleg (not official licensed) and, read carefully, it contains a lot of material re-recorded by John Debney in 1999 for "Back To The Future Trilogy" (Varese Sarabande Edition).
A lot of important cues (included in DeLorean Bootleg) aren't not in this release, infact tracks like "The Skateboard Chase", "85 Lone Pine Mall" etc... are taken from Varese's Edition.
I contacted Movie Music to know what music was included in that cd, they answered me "All DeLorean Bootleg (remastered better quality) and cues from Varese's Release not avaible on DeLorean Boot".
It's not true at all, because tracks like "The Skateboard Chase" was avaible "complete" on DeLorean Bootleg... they didn't put it (the original one conducted by Silvestri) in their cd, but used Debney's re-recording's one.
So, in my opinion it's not a very good purchase at 100%. I've the original MCA's Soundtrack, which includes Overture Suite that contains few minutes of score, but from the Original Score composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri.
If Movie Music's Release would included "All DeLorean Boot"'s Material PLUS Varese's one, maybe it would buy it... anyway, I always prefer to give my money to Official Licensed Labels, who are releasing a lot of important material every month! Intrada Special Collection, Varese Club, Prometheus Club, Etc... let's give them your money, and they will give us our most wanted scores... like Capricorn One, Predator, Commando, Ghostbusters, Amazing Stories and much more ;-)
Have a very nice day my friends! Bye Bye

Well, I did have an unmistakable feeling of flushing $24.95 down the drain when I bought this CD :-).
Luckily I have the MCA song-CD as well! Let's all hope for an official release by Intrada or Varèse.
Thanks for the info, btw.

Many thanks for the responses so far.
I would very much like the CD, I wanted to be sure that my feelings towards it being a bootleg were correct. I think indeed they are. I only wish those prepared to sell illegal items/fakes were brave enough to admit it - after all it doesn't take too much effort in finding out the truth.
Under those circumstances I will pass on making any purchase or bid from this ebay member.

I completely understand you, benterik! :-)
I were going to buy it too (Alan is my favourite composer), but when I listened to the tracks avaible on Movie Music website I discovered that some tracks were not the original ones (it's simple to notice, expecially when we're talking about personal favourite artist ehehehe), so I asked for informations as I wrote before... and discovered all.
About official studio release... Recently Alan received an interview on the italian magazine "Colonne Sonore", made by a friend of mine who works for it. One question was about Back To The Future... and Alan said was interesting that it was never made... so you can understand the one sold on ebay as "Official" is a complete fake!
For those who want to read Alan's interview, Colonne Sonore plublished the "original english version" of the interview, avaible at: http://www.colonnesonore.net/cmslab/articolo.asp?id=177&sezione=contenutiextra (the second question is about Back To The Future... ). :-)
For leuthedog, I'm very happy to help soundtrackcollector's friends! :D
Have fun!
Best Regards

I just noticed that CD the other day, and was very skeptical.
I went for Commando and Honey I Blew Up the Kid instead. :P

it's the polish bootleg: take a better look at the inner circle you still can see the production code which means that's a self made cd-r (silk screened).

There was an 18 track promotional original score available for BTTF!
I have a CD-R of it I accquired via Ebay. And you can always tell right away if it's a re-recording. This score I bought is the real deal and the sound quality if cracking!!!!!!
